Almost everybody on this board disagrees with me, but I say ignition is important to upgrade. Especially once you get you engine to the point where it's pulling higher rpms. I still say that my MSD Dual connector coil was the best money to power gain so far. $40 for a much stronger pull above 4,000 rpm-well worth it imo. The MSD 6A was a little pricier, but made acceleration smoother and improved my milage. The Accel 8.8mm were a nice gain over the bosch 8mm as well.

if you gain power with ignition mods it jsut means your ignition is dying. unless you are running drastically increased compression(read as over 12:1)or boost(above 10-12psi) there is no need to worry about a your coil.
best thing you can do is tuen the car up annually. fresh plugs, wires, cap and rotor.

later

yeah, my stock coil probably was dying and on it's way out. but the msd did exactly what it advertised-boost power above 4,500 rpm where the stock coil's voltage starts to fade. So I don't know. I know someone on this board dynoed it and made 5 more peak hp at 200 more rpm with the msd as opposed to the stock coil.

I noticed a smoother idle and a little quicker/more responsive/smoother throttle responce with mine + wires.

Ignition mod is ok just don't spend over a $100 for your cap, rotor, plugs, wires and coil. Any more than that and you won't get a great horsepower return on investment. You can get the MSD blaster coil, some decent wires, cap, rotor and AC Delco plugs for $100 which = a good tune up.
