Open Element Install Instructions?
Are there any other websites or posts I can look at for complete Open Element installation instructions for my 305 TBI. I was going to use the webpage used in technical articles....but its not working...down or wasnt paid for or something. Hope its back up soon but in the meantime Im planning on putting one in next month and need some detailed instructions. Tries searching through the posts here, but most all I can find refer back to that webpage. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Its very simple to put the open element on all you need is the vaccum plug and of course the air cleaner i would get a drop base 14 x 2,3 or 4 would be a good choice if you are planing on buying a tbi spacer then dont get the 14x4 the biggest filter you could get is a 14x3.
Will the 14x3 fit comfortably under the stock hood even if the spacer is kept? Also, a drop base won't chaff or come into contact with any of the wires on the distributor or anything? I'm about to put some 8.5 mm spark plug wires from MSD on them and am wondering if that is going to interfere since the boots look slightly thicker. Sorry for the newbie question (going to be like this for a long time I see).

I just put in a open element so i can help here.
If you want to get rid of the spacer on the TBI, you need a flat base, a drop base wont clear the distributer. A drop base is fine as long as u leave the spacer, then everything will clear fine. I have a stock 89TA hood and a 14x3 cleared just fine.
PM me if u need any more help

Fewmore questions if you dont mind. Might seem kind of dumb but I have never dont many mods on my cars before, this is kind of a start for me. With my setup now there is a metal hose that goes from what looks light the driver side valve cover to the air cleaner duct. In pictures of the open element I see all that is taken off and there is a chrome cap on the valve cover hole. What is that cap part name so I know what to ask for? Is it a breather or just a cap? Also, exactly what vaccumm lines get plugged? Isn't there a sensor of some kind in the stock air cleaner? What did you do with that, will it fit in a new one? Lastly, I want to do a flat base air cleaner to reduce the TBI restrictiveness, do you have to remove this 'spacer ring'? How hard is it to remove to put on a flat base cleaner?

Yeah its just a chrome breather i just left mine sticking out till i get some show valve covers. And i bought a drop base 14 x 3 and it clears the distributor (cant spell) But i also left the spacer ring and i also have the formula hood on my 89 firebird. If you have the same hood you can take the little metal pice out to let some hot air out.Make sure you put it back if you plan to drive in the rain. The vaccum line that gets plugged is the one that opens and close the little heat stove gadjet.Just follow those lines.
