The obvious difference is the SLP diff is a limited slip unit. It's a torsen-type of limited slip instead of the clutch type.

so is this differential a decent differential or should i buy a more expensive torsen differential theres one at the local drivetrain place for 220 the estimate that i got for the whole rear end setup plus a 342 rear end gear or 373 was $832 if i use their differential and get new berings with it does this sound like too much or is it a decent price

The SLP unit is a decent unit.....not neccessarily the best in terms of posi units, but its way better than your stock open unit. For the Price 99bucks you cant go wrong...just make sure you have 28spline axles since it needs em.

how hard would it actually be to do the gears myself or with someone who has set them up before i can get the tools for free and i know alot of people who have done this before but i was just wonderin because the cheapest place i have found so far wants 420 dollars for labor and im tryin to not spend so much but if i have to i will and also for the ring gears would you go with a 342 or a 373 ive been told good about both

I drive 250 miles home (each way) about twice every quarter and i have not really noticed a difference in gas mileage after going from 2.73 to 3.73.

just make sure you have the correct axles to use it (28-spline) or you have a line on a set of them, because that $99 bucks could certainly creep up in a hurry if you have to change to 28 spline

I think they say some 89s but all 90, 91 and 92's came with 28 spline axles. If you have a 90/91 or 92 then you will have the correct axles to use the SLP unit..if you have 89 it is unlikely since most 89's came with 26 axles.

For the 8.5 10 bolt, GM went to 30 spline in 89. I dont know about the 7.5.

what is a mini spool and what does it do is that like adding a locker to the rear it says that it is for open differentials
