Take a look at the Vortec cam on --->this page<---

Look at the LT1 cams, then look at that one. The specs aren't all that different, and the Vortec cam is $50 NEW!!!

Granted it's nothing compared to the LT4 cam. It has less lift, but that makes it easier since you don't have to replace the springs to handle the lift of the LT1 cam. Besides, you're not gonna find an LT4 cam for $50.

But it's up to you.

BTW, if you want to get that lift back, or even more, all you have to do it get 1.6:1 rockers. That'll bring them up to .437" on the intake, and .452" on the exhaust. That could still possibly allow you to use the stock springs as long as the retainer-to-valve guide clearance is OK.

I have a brand new Vortec cam out of a '97 engine and I also have a low mile #779 LT1 cam from a 95 Impala SS.
I would take $50 for the new Vortec cam or $40 for the LT1 cam. I am located in New Jersey if you are interested.

Last I checked, all TBI cars come with roller cams, and that Vortec cam is a roller cam..... So I guess the answer is "yes"?? You do know that the LT1 cam is a roller cam also, right?

You can reuse your roller lifters, pushrods, and soforth from your engine (as long as they ain't broke ).

BTW, I also have an LT1 cam from a '95 Z28 that I'd sell you for $40, but I know how to use the classifieds and the PM button.

I dont know about the tbi F bodies, but I do know that as late as 1993, the 5.7 tbi Caprice cop cars only had a flat tappet cam.
All the 87-up 350's have the provisions to install a roller cam even if the engine was not factory equipt with it. Some of the 87-early 90's truck engines (that had flat tappet cams) had the 3 stand offs for the retainer plate, but the holes werent drilled.
Basically to retrofit an 87-up engine and install a factory roller cam you will need:
8 lifter anti rotation plates
1 retainer plate
1 cam thrust plate and 2 1/4" screws
cam gear for factory roller cam
16 roller lifters
16 shorter pushrods
distributor gear for the steel roller cam
valve springs to match the cam

This is correct.

This is wrong.
Caprices since 87, I believe, have had roller lifters. They didn't get TBI until 89.

Do you have the complete engine, including the air intake? Can you take a picture of it and post it?

While I can't tell you that you don't know what roller lifters look like, I can say that that 93 Caprice left the factory with roller lifters. Perhaps someone replaced it with a VIN K truck L05. I really don't know....

Snip it thing?

Are you talking about when you set the MOST you'll spend, but it only bids enough for you to win UNLESS the auction goes higher than what you set your maximum at?

That's called proxy bidding, and YES, it's a VERY nice feature. I use it all the time. I "set it, and forget it." Literally. That way I don't end up paying MORE than what I should (something a lot of people on Ebay have problems with )

Well good luck. I would sell you mine, but I have a friend that's somewhat interested in it for his 305, so I don't wanna short change him. Sorry.

I've used snip a few times, and I suppose it is proxy bidding...but it doesn't start bidding until the last 4 seconds of the auction. So you can sit there watching the bid process without attracting more bidders in, or upping the price. Then, towards the end of the auction (or right at the start if you've a definate "not going higher than this price in your head"), you set the price you want to go to, and go to bed.

Hope this helps people get more thirdgen stuff cheaply!

Interesting. It's "come from behind" proxy bidding.

I'm not one that is desperate to win bids, so I guess it wouldn't be useful to me.

Like I said, I set the price of what I'm willing to pay for something, then let it ride, even if I get outbid by 50¢.

I guess it would be good for 'auction-addicts'.

Well, I know my fare share of car business, but when it comes to stuff like this, I'd be better off baking cookies. Now one thing I've noticed is this seems to be quite a good upgrade even if you have a stock/next to stock engine. Am I wrong? And if yes, how hard is it to switch em' out? I have the LO3' 305 TBI engine. Would it be easier/better for me to have it professionally installed and how much do you think that would cost? I'd start a new thread for it, but eh, I'm lazy.... Thanks Guys

i think for something like my situation its good because it seems the seller is bidding one dollar more than the going price because
he does not want to incure the reserve price amount so he is making sure he gets the price he wants... so if ui snip at ONE extra dollar i will beat him at his own game!!
soprry for spelling errors iu'm bombed! lol

LOL that sounds like a good idea. Especially if I can get it rather inexpesively, guess I'll have to wait for my buddies to get back from overseas in the Marine Corp. to help me cuz' they know what the #$@#% they are doing.
