TPI heads really worth it?

hey, i have the opportunity to get some heads off a 1991 305 TPI for pretty cheap. The guy said that I could take them to a shop and if they are cracked he will give me my money back. I was just wondering if it would be worth all the effort of tearing my motor apart to put these on? What kind of gains should I expect?

I put them on my car, and I think if I were to do it over again I would leave the heads out. Save the time, money and effort for a rebuild or a bigger displacement engine. If you were rebuilding the engine it might be worth it, but if you're putting them on an engine with some miles on it I would skip them.

For what you would spend for a valve job you could probably do the lt1 cam swap and get new vavle springs.

P.S. if you do get the heads, and if you are already going to get a valve job done on them, have 1.94 intake valves put in them, I wish i would have done that.

True, Vortec head will be better but then you would have to buy the Scoggins intake which is about $400.00. But if you are willing to do that it is no biggie!

No you wont. Edelbrock makes a vortech carb intake that can be used with a tbi adaptor plate. GM even makes a vortech tbi intake manifold.

You can use any carb intake manifold for tbi as long as you have an adaptor plate.

The vortec TBI intake is $350 from jegs. Carb intakes are a lot cheaper.

Oh I never priced stuff on Jegs, the intake I was looking at was in the GM performance catalog, I usually try to buy parts factory because I get it at cost!
