car overheats after header install
I installed a set of Summit headers a few weeks ago. Since the day I installed them, the car has been overheating badly. My radiator exploded after letting the car run in the driveway for 30minutes. I then installed an all metal radiator and it blasted a hole in the upper part of the tank. The timing has been set and checked several times, I changed the coolant, and the thermostat and hoses are in good condition. What could be causing the overheating? I can't run it for more than a 15minutes without it getting extremely hot.

2 options..
the simple, you messed up the fan relay on the back of the passenger side head during the header install.. disconnected the wire and didn't reconnect it, physically damaged it through rough handling of the header, etc.. (is your cooling fan coming on?)
the extreme, she's leaning out beyond the capability of the cooling system to take care of. seen your headers glowing lately?
Also, pressure buildup should not be so extreme as to blast holes in an all-metal radiator.. your radiator cap and overflow system probably need some TLC..

I think maybe it's leaning out. The mechanic that put on the headers also gave me a TBI unit from a V6 Caddy....which would mean a lower FP setting and possibly weaker injectors...right? The fan comes on and all the Spark plug wires are in the right place.

:wtf:
Put the 305 injectors back on there.. The V6 ones flow considerably less.. Also kick the mechanic in the nuts and go find a different one.

The mechanic is some "poor-town backroad" mechanic. He isn't used to working on Fuel injected cars (obviously). I didn't know much about these cars either, that's why I took it to him. He said he could fix it for me and I just wanted my car to run. When I picked it up the next day, it ran. I had already made the AFPR and added an injector spacer (he trew it all away because he said I damaged it) They've never heard of the internet down here, so they've never seen any of the tech articles on that stuff. I'm going to try to do most of my work myself from now on with the help of DIY articles and books. Thanks for the help guys.
