Dual Snorkel w/ Cowl Induction

How much more advantage would I see running a dual snorkel setup with the functional cowl induction power buldge hood over using my open element? Is this worth the time and money, besides being nice to have a functional hood? Has anyone done this and have any advice? Thanks for any info.

Both the setups would not work together. It'd have to be one or the other...

Dual snorkel gets it's air from the front of car right above the headlights, and a cowl induction system gets air from the back of the hood where the hood and windshield meet. I guess concievebly(sp?) you could leave the top of the aircleaner off or something so you get some colder air from the snorkels and then most of the intake would come from the cowl but I don't know how well that would work/be worth the work/be worth spending the money to find a duel-snorkel. Now you got me thinking...

I think with any cowl induction hood (especially considering the cost of a dual snorkel setup) I would go with an open element to take advantage of the cowl hood. You could try using an open element and something to box it off from the engine compartment and open to the cowl when you close the hood. I don't know if that came out too clearly ha.

I know the element is to tall, I've asked many people but... what if I got a shorter element with a K&N Extreme Lid and rubber sealed that to the setup now that'd be bad assed.

Thats one of the best ways to do cowl-induction, some FirstGens came stock with that setup...

I was going to do what you are thinking of.. I was gonna get a cowl hood and put a K&N air filter lid on.. and have both methods.. But decided not too.. figured it would look weird.. plus there wouldn't be that big of an advantage.. So it's up to you on what you want to do.. Other wise pick a setup.. and nice open element air filter with the cowl hood would look nice, and so doe the dual snorkle.

maybe try to somehow mount the dual on there backwards, and route the snorkels to the back of the cowl. IDK if anyone gets what im trying to say, and i'm not positive how the powerbulge hood is set up as i have a RS. But, just a suggestion.

Using the dual snorkel backwords up to the cowl would be anti-productive. With this meathod you would have less airflow to the air cleaner. Going straight open element with the cowl hood (and sealing it to it) would give you better air flow. All in all, if I had to pick one or the other I would use cowl induction.

i have a factory cowl induction setup on my firebird, and had actually thought of using the dual snorkle base with the cowl induction lid.

fitment is not a problem, both air cleaners are the same size.

i watched ebay and the classifieds on here for awhile. you should be able to pick up the t/a functional cowl setup for between 75 and 100. same for the dual snorkle camaro setup.

when you look at the t/a cowl induction closely, you see it really doesn't flow a lot of air at all. i can tell you there's no noticable difference in performance on my car between it being opened or closed.

as far as the dual snorkle setup, i believe there's a lot more outside air in the areas it draws air from on a camaro than there is on a firebird. one of the drawbacks of our more aerodynamic nose.

the other thing i wondered about was whether the additional irflow from the snorkles would cause there to be less draw from the cowl. if i'm not mistaken, the true cowl induction 1st gen camaros drew air exclusively from the cowl.

was surfing a site some months back and came across a link to an old car craft article where they made a power bulge hood functional on the cheap. it was pretty cool and looked like it would flow a lot of air.

i have the link to it at home. i'll see if i can find it later on.

Does the air assembly on an 84 HO T/A have the same dimensions as my 89 Formula? In other words can I just get his lid and use on my assembly to save money on shipping? Also could I put this lid on a shorter element and still use my open element and get the best of both worlds? Any opinions? Im def. getting this set up because even if it doesnt produce much more hp, It'll be cool knowing my hood actually works

I have also a question about it, because I don't really understand why the Dual Snorkle setup and the stock cowl induction setup would not work together. I'm talking bout this type of cowlinduction to use with the stock formula hood:

And just instead of using the bottom part with only one Snorkle line, use one like this with the 2:

I mean when the Trans AM had it with the LG4 engine it always had one snorkle to the front, so a second one shouldn't really do any harm.

Or am I wrong? I have a 89 Formula myself and am thinknig about that.

Not at all. The more air, the merrier. Instead of going with that little vent found on the power-buldge hoods, why not set up you're dual snorkel (L69), with a regular two inch cowl, but with a K&N extreme lid sealed to it (rig the extreme lid to the factory set up).

I have a cowl hood and a dual snorkel on my car. I was thinking about putting a K&N extreme lid on it, but I don't think they make them that big.

Fabrication is key here. Cut you're original lid up (in four ways, like a pan pizza), but keep the part in the middle (on top of the lid), so it can still secure itself to the Carb.

They sell filter material similar to K&N's in various stores. Just adapt the filter material to you're now exposed lid (underneath it, the carburetor side). You'll just have to figure out a way to make it stay in place.

It might be a little hard to picture what it is I'm saying, but my buddy did this to his LG4... and it works unbelievably. I'll try to get a picture of his set-up for you.
