What gaskets should I get for Edelbrock TBI Intake?

I finally got my Performer TBI intake today and I need to get all the gaskets for install. What kind and basically what will I need to get the job done right? Also, my Edelbrock manifold has a couple little scratches in the polised part around the fuel injector bores...they are small and I can feel them when I run my finger over it. It isn't real deep though...should I worry about this, or will gaskets and sealer take care of it? Help!

just get a basic intake install gasket kit from the auto parts store. I sprung for the mr gasket set around 35.00\ 40.00 bucks. youll need rtv gasket silicone, some antifreeze...i drainded mine...made it less messy. thermostat and gasket.. i changed it all for good measure.. as for the scratches mine had a few small ones too and a regular gasket works just fine..

Don't worry about the little scratches. f you are super worried just call the place that you bought it from and see if they will send you another one. I used plain GM replacement gaskets when i first put the intake on. I have now gone with a set of fel pro only because I had them lying around at the time when the intake came off again for the cam swap. You can use either. I have called edelbrock before on this matter and they do not recomend fel pro gaskets with the use of this intake for some reason.

Here is a link to the instructions from Edelbrock

http://www.edelbrock.com/automotive/...ral_instr.html

It mentions a little about what gaskets to use. I'm wondering though, how much rtv does everyone use? Do you use it on both sides of the gasket?

edelbrock recommends using GM #10159409.

Thanks!

Thanks guys, when I'm ready to install I guess I'll just go to Advance Auto Parts for gaskets and rtv. I'm rebuilding my TBI at the same time and I already purchased the GPsorensen kit. Can't wait to get started! Anything else I should know?

You only use RTV on the front and rear china walls. You put the intake gaskets on dry. You will have to over lap the RTV on the ends to make sure you have a good seal. Use between a 3/8" and 1/2" bead and let it sit for a few hours before you fire up the motor.

i recommend that you put sealant around the coolant passages front and rear. I put on my intake manifold dry, later i checked my coolant and there was oil in the coolant and i am assuming coolant in the oil so i had to rip everything off and do it over again. Even the Haynes manual recommends sealant at the coolant passages and there was sealant on the orginal intake gasket.

vjo brings up a good point. I have had good luck putting them on dry but I think I am going to start putting some sealant around the cooling passages. You may also want to put a dab of sealant on the end of the intake bolts to keep oil from seeping up and pooling on your new intake. It is not a problem but only an eye sore.

I thought I was going overboard on the rtv. I have been trying different combos of intake and tbi so I have done this a few times lately. Each time I think I used about 2 of the small tubes of permatex rtv. It takes longer the next time to clean all the old rtv off than it does to do the actual intake swap work. I'll definately try less next time.

You won't feel much difference. It is pointless to get rid of the stock intake when you have stock heads and cam. The stock intake is garbage but sufficient enough to support the stock internals. Once you have headers and plan a cam swap, then it would be a good time to add one. Unless however you got one for free or a good price and it is just laying around.
