Air Cleaner Stud on my Open Element

I bought the Summit Non-Drop Base Air Cleaner with a 14x3 filter and the dang thing is too tall for my stock stud! I adjusted it as far as it will go and it is still a little too short to get the wing nut on. I just want to know who has open element air cleaners on their stock TBI unit that fit the stock stud with a 3" element? Part numbers would be greatly appreciated.

Take off the gold ring that raises the stock air intake. If I'm correct, a non-drop base should work perfectly with out it. I have an edelbrock triangular air cleaner and i have absolutely no problems with it fitting. But about the wing nut; I just used the stock wing nut with a nut between the air cleaner and the wing nut. It works perfectly.

Yeah i think the ring is still on the throttle body, take that ring off, i have my stock stud, and i run a 14x4, it was close tho, i ended up adding some to mine.

Nope, I already have the ring off. I am just talking about, base of Non-Drop right on top of the TBI, gold ring off, stock stud isn't tall enough.

The search button is your friend, young one! This has came up quite a few times with the vast number of intake options available for out TBI cars. HTH....

Try unscrewing the stock stud. You can make it taller by only having it threaded into the TBI unit a thread or two.

I am not a "young one", I have been searching and using this board for a few years. Anyway, I did do the searching, and only found a couple things specific about the air cleaner stud. My question is, who has open element air cleaners that did NOT require any modification to the stock throttle body and stock air cleaner stud???

Mine didn't fit right either, just like you're describing. I unscrewed the stud completely and bent it so the "S" shape wasn't as defined by straightening it out a little. Looks perfectly stock but now it fits because bending it a little made it longer. Try it out.

You shouldn't have any problems. I have installed tons of drop base and non drop base cleaners and both fit with the stock stud. in fact, I have cut over .5" off of mine to keep it away from the underside of the hood. Do you have a pic? Did you get rid of the gold spacer ring?

I've got a Moroso Flat Bottom Racing Air Filter. It fit fine!

Well, I thought it was funny..

Mine seemed to be the exact same hight as the stock cleaner. Mine is the 14x3 Edelbrock drop base. I even used the stock wingnut cuz I didn't like the way the one it came with looked.

I've always wondered, what is that piece to the upper right of your intake? It has a line going into the bottom, and one going out of the top that I think (it's early in the morning, *** knows where it really goes) goes to the brake booster.
