Speed buffer

Will driving a tbi camaro with the speed buffer not hooked up cost horsepower. Because if i understand it correctly the speed buffer controls lookup, egr, and cruse control. Does the ecu use speed readings to contol like fuel ratios etc. Just wondering because i currently do not have my speed buffer hooked up.

Do you mean speed limiter? If you bypass the VSS you will throw a code but will not have any drivability problems. The EGR and AF ratio are complete separate from any VSS signal.

This is what the speed buffer is and what it does.
This is for an electronic speedo

I geuss I am still confused. Isn't that just a tech article to swap to an electric speedo? What exactly do you have not hooked up? Explain if you could.

Shifty, I believe he is talking about the yellow box that is on or near the ecm on all gm vehicles with an electronic speedo. I think his question would about having it unpluged would have the same effect as having the vss unpluged at the tranny.

now i think you are on the right track. My question was about if i had the yellow box unpluged (speed buffer) would it cause drivability problems and would i loose power (horsepower torque etc.) I know the speedo wouldent work and the egr and lockup would not either

EGR will still work and so will all of your other engine functions.

Shifty, I'm not sure what rout the ECM takes to get the information, but there are mph parameters for egr enable and dissable.

You are complety right about the EGR. I have forgotten about that. Mine is set at the stock mph right now but will be set to 200mph or some un reachable speed to dissable it. You can tell its been awhile since I have been around a lap top. Should have the car tuned soon.
