Finished Performer TBI install...now help me diagnose...

Well, after taking about a month, I finally got the RS back together and drove it today. First off, the car has 69K on it, and this is what I have done:

-Rebuilt the TBI/Injectors with a GPSorenson kit including all gaskets and cleaned the hell out of it...this thing looks brand new inside and out.
-Installed Jegs TBI Injector Spacer
-Installed Edelbrock Performer TBI
-Installed New GM EGR Valve

I spent hours doing this to ensure I did it all by the book the first time.
Before I did this, the car had MSD Blaster Coil, Cap, Rotor, 8.5 Wires, ACDelco Rapidfire plugs, Catco 3" Cat, Flowmaster 3" Cat-Back.

PROBLEM: Got the car running, drove it, and now it has a massive hesitation at low RPM! It will really bog down when I start from a stop, and it will continue to bog down at the beginning of all the gears. It will bog for a second or so and then slowly accelerate, once I'm in the upper RPMs it feels OK and seems to stop bogging. On inclines or hills, I can't even use 5th gear at all because it has absolutely no power. So I'm wondering what is causing this...could I have changed timing by accident messing with the distributor reinstallation? Is it my IAC, my TPS, or something I didn't do with the throttle cables?? Please help!

Did you re-set the timing? What did you set it at? Sounds like a timing problem.

I don't have a timing light, and I'm relatively new to doing my own work on my cars, so I am going to have to take it down the street to a friend to get the timing checked. I'm hoping its just timing...I spent too much time on this to have to tear it all apart again. It sounds good at idle, nice deep, steady rumble, but its just when I start to move, it has no power...still think its timing?

Yes it is your timing. You have to re-set the timing any time you remove the distributor no matter how close you think you have it. Remember to unplug the EST as you set it.

Thanks Shifty, I'll take it down to my friend's shop and get it done. I'll let you know if it was the timing.

You have to unplug the est to set the base timing so that the ecm does not interfere. It is a brown wire right over the passenger side strut mount.

Does the problem happen only when the engine hits normal operating temp and not when cold?

Maybe try putting a tee in the line to the egr valve (block it so the egr doesn't work) and then take it for a test drive, and see if it does it. Mine had a weird stumble at low rpm, I blocked the EGR and it went away.

It's a five minute test, and it's free.

Just so you know timing lights are cheap and good to have. I think I bought my Mac tools light off ebay for like $8, lol.

If he did not set the timing after he put the distributor back in that is his problem. Timing, final answer.

I can't get the Camaro in the shop until Monday, so I'll let you guys know what plays out. I'm just hoping shifty is right and its just off timing.

OK, I got the car in the shop and they said my timing was set at 12*!!! No wonder I had no power! Anyway, they set it back to factory spec 0* and for most part the hesitation is gone. I still feel a tiny bit of something in the low RPMs though...I had them install a new fuel filter while they were at it. I bought a new GP Sorenson TPS at Advance today and will be putting it on tomorrow to see if there is any difference. Any more advice on how to make my L03 run better than new?

I would have them set the timing to 4* advance. 0* is the stock setting but a little base advance can give a little more throttle repsonse and a few ponies.
