I was getting about 20 city driving with just an open element. I saw as high as 24mpg on the highway- I rarely drive more than 60 hwy miles per tank. I get about 16-17 city right now, and about 18 combined. I leadfoot this car wherever I go. I have a new found passion of beating the crap out of my car. The L03 is bulletproof.

14-15 inthe city and around 20 on the highway, that is with 3.73 gears and a lead foot.
im running 2.73's pulling a 15.9 and im getting 20 mpg.only real mod is an open element, what could be causing my crappy crappy mileage? i can afford it at about 20 mpg so if i could get it better i could switch to 3.73's and yippeee!
i drive the car pretty hard, do they respond wll to an easy foot?

Yes, 20mpg isn't half bad. If you get that driving pretty hard you'll get great mileage easy on the throttle. Also, notice that the guys with real high mpg have 5-speeds. They have a .63 overdrive gear that gives better mileage than an auto's overdrive gear.
ahah, never even considered that... okay.
i know that some cars run better on high octane and you can actually save money with those cars by spending more at the pump and getting better mileage, point in fact my bro in law got like 100 more miles out of his tank (large tank) by using high octane gas. could the lo3 concievably be tuned for this purpose and get better performance and better mileage with minor parts changes like an msd blaster coil and different spark plugs?

My car stock with 5-speed and 3.08 gears would get 22 MPG Avg. and 28-31 MPG on long trips, advancing the timing about 3-4 deg. and adding a 14" open filter helped power a bit but didn't do anything for MPG.

I have gotten over 25 on the highway and get a combined mpg of 18. That is driving to work every day and around town a few times.
Edit: that is with the RS with the 305, auto. I am not sure about my mpg with the L98 yet and i have 3.42s in that.
