TBI Issues
I know this is a camaro site, and I drive a truck but its TBI and I hope there are some of you that might be able to help me with my issues I am having. Let me give you a little run down.... I have a 350 30 over, vortec heads, converted to roller with all stock GM stuff. The cam is 480 488 206 212. I have upgraded my injectors to 80lbs. Long tube headers, true duals "H" and a heated O2. I have had a custom chip burned and the thing runs like ****. I have done a lot of tuning and cant seem to get the thing to run right I had had to advance the timing to about 25 degrees to get it to run right. Once I got the chip I didn't. The gas milage has completely gone to ****. Does anyone have any suggestions?? Thanks

Just for grins try swapping back in the original injectors. I think it is time for you to learn prom tuning.

Could be a number of things, but yes you need some custom tuning. Shouldn't be too bad with that mild cam.
Do you have the stock size tbi on there?

Hey Z71,
Thanks for the tip about advancing the timing! I've got mine up to 14BTDC just so it would run halfway decent.
The key is to have a good custom chip burned. Brian @ tbichips is burning something for me until I can burn my own. Have you connected your EGR? If not, that's also contributing to your problem. Another suggestion would be to install 65PPH injectors in place of the 80's.

I am running the Vortec TBI intake that requires you to plumb the EGR to it. It is blocked off. I do have a custom chip but it dosen't seem to work all that well. Ben

Hey Z71,
The EGR setup for the vortecs is a little weird when trying to adapt it to a TBI motor (even with the GMPP intake). Do you have a custom chip that has the EGR disabled?
I've also heard that vortec heads were a little more difficult to tune a chip for (but I can't confirm that). Who did your chip? Looks like you'll need to have a better chip programmed. A suggestion would be to invest in the stuff to tune and burn a chip yourself. It's cheaper than taking your truck to a tuner.
In the meantime, get in touch with Brian @ www.tbichips.com and see what he can do for you. It wont be perfect but it'll be better than where you are now!

Ben,
Get a hold of that guy and have him burn you a new chip. If he's any good, he'll reburn you another at no cost. Just remember to tell him you're not running an EGR and have him make the necessary adjustments. Most tuners will want to make the customer happy. If you have a laptop, you might want to get into some datalogging so he'll have a record of how his chip affects your performance. Just a suggestion...

thanks I have the WINALDL program and I have been saving him some data. He is the one that told me to run the 80lbs injectors or I had to deadhead my fuel system to get higher pressure.

Ben,
You really need a regulator!! Get the pressure up to take advantage of your new performance parts. You can mess with the 80PPH injectors but with a stock fuel pump, I'd get 65PPH injectors for your 4X4 application.
I just picked up a pressure gauge from Ebay so I can tweek and monitor the pressure level. I also just got my new chip from tbichips so I'm hoping that will make a big difference. It's going to take a while to learn WinALDL as well as how to burn chips so I wanted something that worked decently until I get up-to-speed with DIY.
(Burning chips for F15s and F16s was easy compared to doing it for TBI engines)
Did you contact that Canadian dude about your chip?

I have a set of the 65s but the guy that is trying to make the chip over the phone said I need to have the 80's I think they are flowing to much in my opinion. Also whay the hell did I have to advance my timing so far the get it to run?? It dosent make sense to me at all. Ben

I have a custom ship in now, It dosen't require as much timing now. Still runs poorly though. I am still wondering if the 80's are too much for it? I think I might try the 65ers and see what happens.
