What is this in my aircleaner??

I just picked up a duel snorkel aircleaner, and I have no idea what the purpose of this flame surpressor looking thing is. Light does not shine through it, and it looks like something is in it.. To me it looks like a major air blocker.. If it is of no use, how can I remove it. Thanks.

wierd. maybe it "straightens" the air to reduce turbulace? a K&N does the same thing.

I don't know, it is attached to the air cleaner unit, and is on the inside area closest to the throttle body. it takes up about 3/4 of the available height of what a air filter would be, if air can't pass through it, then the air would be forced to travel over it.

I had a dual snorkel on my 92RS. Someone said it is called an air baffle. Supposed to help suppress encase the engine backfires. I maybae wrong.

Thats what I think it may be. But I don't understand why light can't pass through it, and air doesn't really flow through it either. It does have a wire mesh on both sides.

I have the HO air cleaner too and I did notice that thing. I just left it on since I didn't have the time to figure it out. I totally forgot about it until you brought this up. "WTF" is it. I was impressed with the sound and WOT. Good investment, I did gut the thing so not sure if it's worth anything anymore. Oh well, works for me

I noticed on Bullfrawg's LG4 cars, he has one of those things. His has a single snorkel. I think it has something to do with the carb cars maybe.
