sluggish after headers
sluggish after headers
I have the custom chip in and have just installed headers but there is no exhaust from the headers back yet. I took it out for a test drive and it was very sluggish. Can running a setup like this make it run sluggishly?
I'm getting dual exhaust on next week.

ya you are loosing your scavanging effect and the lack of backpressure has pushed your HP band so high that your car is not set up to handle it.

Imagine exaust gasses are like a ball going through a tube. Each time the exaust valve opens, a ball comes out. These ***** are tight against the wall of the tube so behind them a vaccume effect is formed, this vaccume effect pulls on the ball behind the first one making it come out faster than it would if it was by itself. By making the tube longer after the headers, there are more pulls on the later ***** by the previous *****. If the tube is short after the headers, there is little if no pull on the ***** behind the first one. This makes the later ***** come out slower than if there was a vaccume type pull(also called a pulse) infront of them. That is my version of the scavaging effect

heres my version.
know how you want cold air going into your car? cuz its thicker and more dense. well..
you want hot air coming out, cuz thin hot air moves faster.
Since you have nothin after the headers, they arent heating up at all either. Along with the problem taz explained. You want to keep the gas inside the header tube hot, so it flows out easier.
thats my version.

That's pretty cool how that works. I guess you could also say that a guy with a car that has no exhaust isn't getting his ***** sucked hard enough. And that does suck.
But starting next week, my ***** will get sucked real good.

are sure it just doesnt sound really loud and therefore you think you should be going faster? Also you have your O2 sensor hooked up right? Make sure there are no leaks as those tend to make performance lackluster. You dont need back pressure.....you need velocity.

As far as it being loud, that came across my mind at first. But that notion was zapped when I punched it and it still oozed down the road. O2 sensor is new and installed securely.
