K&N extreme lid on stock air cleaner

I just took off my hood insolation (was looking pretty bad and anti-freeze got all over it ...don't ask) Will the K&N lid help at all on the stock air cleaner and stock hood?..is it worth the money or should I put my money else where ?

Buy the summit open element air filter. Its $20, and you'll see more of a gain over just the lid. If you want you could add the lid later, too.

wouldnt it be possible for the lid to pick up cooler air as opposed to the open element?

Not really. They'll both be pulling air from inside the engine, which is ovbiously gonna be pretty hot. The only way to overcome would be a cowl or other aftermarket hood, but then the benefits of open element become even more known.

But hell, its $20 for the open element, you could prolly do 'em both.

The Xstream lid will not fit on the stock air cleaner assembly, anyhow... I tried it. I ended up buying an open element cleaner.

Theres a tech article off the main thirdgen.org page.

Basically you'll put a screw in the vacuum line comming off the tbi, you'll relocate the IAC sensor to somwhere that's getting cool air (or drill a hole in the new air cleaner and put it back in) and buy a breather ($6 or so at autozone for the mr. gasket) on where the breather ran into the stock air cleaner housing. 10 minute job if you can get the IAC out, but ist kidna tricky. Just wiggle it with a pair of needle nose pliars and it should come out.

I chose to relocate my IAT sensor inside my aircleaner. Pretty easy, but it took us a 1/2 hour at the hardware store to figure out that the thread on the sensor was "pipe thread" and thats why none of the normal nuts fit it. I don't have anywhere to host pics at the moment but i can email you some. The pics will also show that i should have put it farther inside, it stuck out to far and i had to dent the indide of the filter in a bit so it would fit on... But on the outside you can't tell.
