L98 cam in a LO3 engine

i just did a cam swap and know my TBI 5.0 has a L98 cam in it. It is a reasonable difference,i was wondering what kind of power gains i was looking at. My car pulls alot harder now and it idles a hell of alot better. any comments

The L98 cam was built for the TPI system. I don't know every spec about the cam (too lazy to look it up) but it's definatly a higher lift than the stock L03 piece. You probably also changed your timing chain, right? If you did that could be a major reason why the car is idling much better. The TPI cam was designed to work with the long tube intake runners, not the short TB system BUT the Lo3 heads have a velocity design similar to the TPI runners (in theory) and this is probably why the cam feels much better all around. Did you go with 1.6 rockers? What else did you do other than the cam swap or was that it? Does anybody know the L98 and LT1 cam specs?

The L98 cam specs are in the cam tech article on this site. The LT1 cam specs have been posted in an image file quite a few times on the TPI and General Tech boards, you'll have to do a search.

the L98 cam is similar to a LT1 one but noone has recomended a L98 cam for the L03 in a while since used ones would be so damn old now.

LT1 specs: These very a little year to year on the LT1's but I got these specs a while back when someone posted them.

The duration at lash point in degrees at .050" tappet lift (intake/exhaust) is 205/207; and maximum lift with 1.5:1 rocker ratio (intake/exhaust) is .447/.459. Valve lash is zero/zero and lobe centerline is 116 degrees.

L98 cam works OK in the TBI cars but when you can get LT1 for just a couple dollars more you might as well go with it.

Let's see...the 92-93 9C1 L05 uses the L98 cam and was rated at 205hp. If you do the straight numbers (205*(305/350)) you end up with 178hp. Somehow, I think you have more than that. Maybe 190.
