finalizing TBI motor-to-be

ZZ4 shortblock, FastBurn heads, ZZ4 cam (with 1.6 RR's on intake, 1.5RR's on exhaust for .506"/.510" lift, 208-209/221 duration)

412hp/398lb-ft WITH 650cfm Holley carb, 33BTDC. Gave up on the HotCam 'cause I know I can reach my 400hp goal with a smaller cam.

This is basically a FastBurn 385 (350cid/385hp/385lb-ft) but with roller rockers (instead of the 1.5 ratio ZZ4 stamped pieces, yuk, that come with the FastBurn motor) and 1.6 ratio on the intake instead of the 1.5 ratio, which I am sure the intake of the FastBurns liked. The friction factor alone from the RR's is probably worth 10-15hp and the rest of the gains are from the added intake lift.

TBI to be put on over the next couple weeks or so, small unit for now, 454 unit if I need it, which I probably will. Stock market is beating me up so bad, it is terrible... Also, will probably swap the heads to Vortecs after FastBurn PROM is done just to see what I can get out of those Vortec, heads, while I still got 'em in the garage.

I hope all are well!!!

Sounds like a plan. Keep us updated frequently because it's lonely being one of the few guys with a 350 and TBI. It would ben nice to have somebody to share bin files with, that is if you're going to stay with the 8746....or aren't you?
Good luck with the market.

I have the truck 7747 ECU, sorry.

Also in the process of lengtheneing my Wrangler 40" so if I run into trouble(s), the TBI implementation will have to wait a little while longer.

that sounds like an awful lot of power for a 2barrel tbi unit. i am thinking you may get your best results with one of the holley 4barrel units. the 700cfm would work great for full range torque, the 900cfm would get ya more top end but sacrifice a little torque.

Yep, I am still here (thanks, Steve) but now I have to deal with what those guys have done to our economy and stock market. Bummer. These last few days, I am losing more money in ONE day than I make on one month. But, you don't lose until you sell... Some short-term trades have now, obviously, turned into long-term holds, which ties capital, just when the housing prices are getting good, too.

Tas, is that your Jeep??? Pretty cool looking. Trying to get some heim-jointed arms made for my steering. OEM stuff getting old... I'm gonna get some pix of mine up for you guys one of these days. I know you are "car" ugys, and so am I. I just also happen to like Jeeps. Also, might lengthen the Wrangler 40", just for a Winter project. and a 7747 ECU'd 502cid Conversion (like the GMPP one in the catalog) would be nice, too...

I personally don't like Holley injectors so I won't consider their units, sorry. Just my ways/experience. No offense, at all!

I still plan on an MPFI conversion (using the podless 454TBI as air control) down the road which I presume will be just as illegal as a RamJet. I suppose I could just use a RamJet but I wouldn't be able to do the tweaking like I do now with the GM TBI. VERY easy to swap in a motor for emmissions test every year or two, especially in a Jeep. The entire front clip comes off in like 1/2 hour and makes the job easy. Swapping the engines is a small price to pay, really, for high-performance. Plus, it gives me a chance to clean things up in the compartment a bit every so often. But, gotta keep an OEM'ish TBI motor in the garage...

I am pretty sure that the small TBI will not get me to 400hp... That motor is sucking some air on the dyno...

On the evil side, I am getting rather tired of TBI/PROM work. I mean, I feel it is superior to carb, still, in many ways, especially for a street motor, but with the 4.56 gears in my Jeep, the mileage benefits of the TBI and TH700R4 are greatly diminished. ie, TBI with 3.07 gears = great mileage, 3.07 carb sucks, but TBI and carb with 4.56's are equal for mileage, or close enough to not have to bust my butt over the PROM. Just something I have noticed as I try to find ways to spend more time with wife/kids/clients thses last sveral months. I have a 1406 Edelbrock on my Jeep motor now with OOB vortecs, COMP XE250 still and it runs like a banshee with the 4.56's. Only about 15mph on the highway at 2500rpm's, though, vs 19mpg with 3.07's with same tires. about 11mpg in city/daily driving, though, with the carb vs about 13mpg with TBI and 4.56's. I have pissed off some CT cops, lately, so I might have to bring the Jeep back to CA for a bit. I think because I beat a cop-buddies 5.0 stanger.

Take care, guys.

EDIT: That Jeep is pretty cool, Tas, in your link. He extended the bed nicely. I am going to basicall add a whole 'nother rear-section to mine. From just behind the door jam area back... about 40" worth, moving the rear axle back 40" as well, not leaving it in the OEM location. will "un-tub" the OEM fenders where the original tires are now, too. Considered tandem rear axles (OEM location and 40" location) but a buddy of mine did that in a an old Blazer and convinced me otherwise...

you could swap to some form of port injection and keep all the egr and other tree hugger parts if you use a tpi ecm. just plumb the injector bungs into the existing tbi manifold and get a custom chip burned. that would prolly even be pretty cheap.

EGR? The time I spend on trying to fake it/make it work I would RATHER spend on putting an OEM engine/ECU in.

Seriously, EGR is the right thing to do, but for me, I won't consider it a problem.

EDIT: Holley TBI's were "supposed" to have GM similar injectors but HOLLEY decided to use their own injectors to save money. That is a year-old(+) decision and was an obvious one to me... NEVER gonna happen: profit margin too high for holley with their own injectors.
