dieseling problem with a 86 TA

My buddy has a 86 TA with a 305 TBI. Everytime he shuts it off, with the trans in park, and the engine hot, it diesels on anywhere from 3 seconds to 3 minutes at about 100rpm.
If he shuts the engine off with it in drive, the it shuts right down normally.

any ideas whats going on here??? thanks a ton for the help.

Try and decrease base timing. Sounds like it's a little to advanced and running a little on the hot side.

In 86 there was no TBI so are you SURE it's TBI? The TBI and carb look the same. They use the same air cleaner.

I think timing for a carb was 6 base but I don't know since TBI the base timing was actually 0 from the factory. I'll bet it's a carb, I'd pull out a few degree's of timing. Turn off the car. You can tell when you have to much timing when the car is hard to start.

Yeah, it's got to be carb. Shut the ignition off, the injectors die. The engine will stop.
