0 base sucks, bump it to 6 and watch for spark counts (knock) with a scanner. If you have some knock either run higher octane or retard timing to 4 and try again.

i assume you guys are takling about base timing...if that isthe case, you might think i am crazy..or my car is.

mine is set at about 12 degrees. is this like nuts or what? that is the only way that i can get the car to run right, without backfiring and spitting ansd sputtering and poping and all that other good stuff.

what could be the problem here? distributor in wrong?

Did you remember to disconnect the little brown wire before setting your timing?
If not maybe you timing chain has walked on you.

Past Thirdgen:
86 Trans Am w/ built 355TPI with SLP goodies and too much other stuff to List. One sweet *** car, wish I would have had a good enough Job to pay insurance on three cars so I could keep it, but for a 89 Turbo Trans Am w/ Low miles, I think I made the right choice!

Brian, the 330hp requires 10 degrees base timing. I just noticed this after scanning through the install instructions. They even sugest the exact timing advance at certain rpms, this is GREAT because now I know how the timing should look .
