You're in the wrong forum. These guys will tell you keep the TBI.

Look at the TBI to TPI tech article on this website, then do a board search for all the threads from people who have done the swap before you. Check out the Engine Swap forum, and the TPI forum specifically.

Re: TBI to TPI

TPI swap needs to include TPI heads, TPI fuel pump, TPI exhaust, TPI computer +tune and ev. cam depending on wich stock performance configuration you like.

To make the same hp with your stock TBI you need, TPI fuel pump, AFPR with a stiffer spring, TPI exhaust, tune (easyest with EBL) and cam depending on wich TPI hp configuration you like for reference.

This is what I came up with wenn I was searching.

Re: TBI to TPI

You dont have to swap the heads. My dad's old car made 176 RWHP and 290 RWTQ with the stock TBI peanut camshaft and heads and a TPI intake. Putting in an LT1 camshaft netted another 11 horsepower but no change in torque. The TBI engine made 158 RWHP and 220 RWTQ.

This is what a stock TPI setup on a 305 TBI with a small roller cam and a full exhaust will net you. Its tuned pretty well too. Above 4,000 rpm the TBI would easily out-pull and pass the stock LTR TPI setup though. The TPI has gobs of mid-range torque which is shown by the burst of acceleration when it kicked down. You can tell the combination really struggles to get going above 3,500 rpm in 2nd gear though and is being held back by the stockish heads, base, runners and plenum.

Re: TBI to TPI

wow that picture is confusing. anyway the only reason tpi guys are making more power than tbi is that noone is using tbi so just get better heads, cam, intake, exhaust, tune and you will be rolling with the tpi guys in no time. just my

Re: TBI to TPI

The tune is the hardest part of the TBI system. I'm told the EBL replacement computer is a real step up in that area.
