Throttle Body Spacers
I was searching the summit racing website and I ran across this throttle body spacer. I want to know does anyone think it would fit on a stock 92 firebird TBI 305 V8. It is a 1 inch spacer would it fit and also would it clear the hood? Also, would this put much hp or anything?

Re: Throttle Body Spacers
Other posts say a TB spacer doesn't show any difference. I've done the TBI airflow mod and the injector spacer on my '88 and it seems to idle smoother and respond a little better. Later.

Re: Throttle Body Spacers
On a stock TBI engine I'm sceptical that these spacers have any benefit, especially on 305's. In the carb world open spacers are used as minor tuning device, adding open spacers improves the high RPM flow a little, bumping the peak torque point up in RPM and if the engine is capable of it, increasing the peak HP a little. If the engine isn't capable of making HP at the higher RPM the spacer will hurt power a little, so dyno tuning is often used to find out if a spacer helps an engine.
On a stock L03/L05 engine, the stock TBI is capable of flowing enough for around 295 HP, and since stock L03's make around 170 HP and stock L05's around 210 HP, it doesn't appear that more airflow is needed with these engines, so I don't see how a spacer will help.
But there could be other reasons for a gain, apparently on some manifolds raising the flow entry point up off the manifold floor a little helps it enter the ports better.
It would be interesting to see a careful back to back dyno test on a spacer, the only ones I've seen made some other changes at the same time so it wasn't clear what affect the spacer alone had.
One thing is certain, if it does have an effect, either good or bad, on a stock engine it won't be very large.

Re: Throttle Body Spacers
I just put a TNT spacer on my car a couple of days ago and this is what I have noticed.
The good.
A "deeper" idle . engine at idle sounds alittle meaner.
Better throttle response. Not alot but a noticable improvement
Better midrange torque. The car seems to pull much better in the midrange. Feels snappier.
The bad.
Warmup idle seems alittle poorer, almost like a carb car in a sense. not a big deal though.
Had to cut a hole in my hood. Getting a mustang scoop anyway so it's of no concern to me.
Other than that I'm pretty pleased with mine. It's definatly alittle harder to put on than most people say and make it work correctly. I had to remove the throttle bracket and enlongate the holes about a 1/4 inch to the rear to be able to slide it forward and I put 1/4 spacers under it to correct the cable geometry. I didn't have a problem with the fuel lines so it's all good there.
