Which Shape Filter?

I've decided i'm gonna get an open element setup but i'm not sure which one. For the shape i don't really care, the oval and triangular one's look nice but the round one's fine too. Also i guess i'm getting rid of the spacer so what filter height would fit? (I'm guessing i'll get drop base) Suggestions please
thanks

The selection of round filters is much greater than the selection of triangular ones.

I went with a 14x3 open element from Edelbrock. I hear people use the 2" and 3" tall filters mostly. I believe mine is actually 3.75" tall to be exact.

THIS IS A VERY TALKED ABOUT MOD, AND A GOOD ONE!!FROM EXP, GET A 14IN ROUND BREATHER 14X4 DROP BASE, NO ISSUE'S ON COIL CLEARENCE, ALSO K&N MAKES THERE EXTREME LID FOR A 14 IN BREATHER, ITS JUST A HIGH FLOW LID THATS ALSO A AWSOME FILTER, IT PULLS AIR FROM TOP AND SIDES, AWSOME PRODUCT!! AND YOU WILL HAVE TO RELOCATE THE IAT SENSOR, JUST TUCK IT IN A COOL SPOT.. THIS IS WHAT I HAVE AND IT WORKS AWSOME!!!, AUTO ZONE, HAS THEM, EVEN HOLLY AND ELDEBROCK, FACT, THE MORE AIR YOU CAN PULL IN, THE BETTER YOU CAR WILL PREFORM AT ALL RPM'S. IF YOU GOT A HIGHFLOW EXT. SYSTEM, A OPEN ELEMENT IS A MUST!! IT WILL GIVE A DEEP THROTY SOUND.. AND SOMETIME CHANGE EXT. DEPTH A LITTLE.YOU WILL ALSO MOST DEFF FEEL A THROTTLE RESPONE GAIN, DEPENDING UPON THE COND. OF YOUR ENGINE!! LET US KNOW HOW IT WORKS OUT

KUDOS!! Definitely check the extreme airflow lid out! I have one on a 14x3" K&N and it looks and performs awesome!! I'm very suprised that not many guys on here use them. I know there a little pricey, but the extra airflow and visual impact are worth every dollar in my book.

I don't know how much extra flow you're going to get when the pleats hang down into the flow above the airhorn, and the lid itself is practically touching the hood if you don't have a cowl. They do look pretty good, though.

ITS KINDA AMAZING THE FLOW YOU PICK UP, YOU CAN ACCT HEAR IT PULL MORE AIR AT A QUICK WOT.(WIDE OPEN THROTTLE) MORE COOL AIR GET TO THE TOP OF THE HOOD IN A CAMARO.. BUT IF YOU CHOSE NOT TO RUN THIS EXTREME LID, OPEN ELEMENT IS STILL MUCH BETTER AND A LITTLE EYE CANDY.BUT YEA I HAVE A HARWOOD 3IN COWL, WORKS AWSOME WITH THE RISE

I agree that using the lid with the stock hood isn't the ideal set-up. The same can be said about using the open element with the stock hood, in that it just sucks in the hot air off the engine. My filter/lid mod made a huge difference on my LO3 with my stock hood. At the higher RPM's the extra air definitely let the engine breathe deep and produce more power and pull. I obviously can't say how much of that was from the lid as opposed to the open element, but I find it had to believe its (the lid) not helping out at all. I plan on getting a 3" cowl and making it functional so hopefully I will see the full potential of the combo then...I'm expecting big things!

And yeah it looks a little nicer than the black box and snorkel....

Re: Which Shape Filter?

Shaker, very nice looking engine, wish mine was that clean. Are those emission headers with airtubes? Yeah unless u got a tall hood that lid wouldn't add any air flow but it does look cool. Later.

Re: Which Shape Filter?

Thank you, Fords88, not quite sure what your asking about the headers...they were on the engine when I got it. They are Hooker and the the driver side tube has a sensor running into it so I'm not sure if that makes it emmisions compatable??

Let us know what you decide on 92rs....
