look into the stock lt1 cam it will make good power in a 305. i am getting ready to put one in my 305 tpi. the best part is the cam is cheap you can get one usualy around $50 - $60 if you find the right person.

Re: how much power will I feel in a 90rs f/m intake swap?
I put the edlbroke intake on mine. Of course I did yank out my 305 now and have a mild stroker in place. I wanted that little more in the peddle. The other guy is right the stock LT1 cam should be banging in it. With the edlebroke intake though you do not have to use the adapter and you will get better performance. You might even beable to run a spacer under the TBI with the edlebrok. I can not I went to a taller filter on my car until I put my cal hood I can not go any higher I am hitting now. They sell the edelbrok on summit.

All right I was sayin turn off the caps because it's the equivalent to screaming on the web and if you look at the top of this board you will see where the stickies are. Where it says "STICKY" Smartass.

I modded my TBI before I changed to TPI.
But I don't think helping rude and inconsiderate people is what this board is for. Its for helping nice and decent people.
YES!!! Using caps when posting on the web is considered screaming this is common knowledge to any intelligent person who has used the internet more then once. It called etiquette. look that one up in websters.
The "sticky" is a post located at the top of each forum. Some have multiple stickies. they are clearly labled as such. They are posts with answers to common questions that have been asked hundreds of times. Also try the search forum feature you'd be surprised at how quickly a little effort on your part will go to helping you.
OH AND IF YOU WANT HELP AROUND HERE DON'T BE A SMARTASS WORD GETS AROUND AND NOONE HELPS SMARTASSES.

First, Look at the top of the screen of the TBI forum
second, Look about an inch down the page where it says "sticky threads" in the bold black line
third, read them. simple enough.
If you want help on how to make your car faster we will be more than happy to do so. BUT........... If you come in here like a "Red Bulled" up 15 year old kid who has a ******** complex then that will get you nowhere. So..... calm down with the attitude, be alittle more polite and we will help you.

Bot anyway, Being as nice as can be, I have had alot of wrong info, (really none has helped yet) I work on cars, atv's, motorcycles... typeing correct is my last concern... but if it makes all the peace, Sorry dude, I think you should say the same.... You could have told me how to find that from the start, But ohh well.. but my intake, duel plane vs. single?? whats the pros and cons???

Re: how much power will I feel in a 90rs f/m intake swap?
OK since you've chilled out I'll give you a hand. There have been MANY threads on the subject of "dual versus single" and it really depends on what you want out of your car. Dual plane intakes are better suited for the street and provide better lower to mid RPM power and torque in most cases. Single planes are better for people seeking more higher RPM power. TBI doesn't suffer from torque loss from single planes like carb vehicles do. If tuned in right from what I understand they perform pretty well. BUT........ If you want alittle more power out of what you have now I would recommend either the Eddy 3704 or the Performer RPM intake. Both are dual planes and the 3704 is a direct replacement where as the RPM I believe you have to elongate the 2 center holes of the intake to get them to bolt up correctly.
Another question is what exactly do you want out of your car? A peppy daily driver? A strong 305 or a more street strip vehicle?

Re: how much power will I feel in a 90rs f/m intake swap?
Lots of guys who run TBI like the lt1 cam it a direct bolt in for our cars its a mild cam but a big step up from the little peanut cam that comes in the engine. I would recomend this its about the biggest cam you can use with the stock heads. And speaking of heads THe LO3 in the car came with swirl port heads they flow for s*** I would change them . you cam probably get both the cam and some 081 Tpi heads cheap from the boards here check the classifieds or post in the parts wanted section. those mods with any of the intake recommended here should help pick the pace up on this car nicely.
by the way i picked up a lt1 cam for $45 and 081 heads for 30 here on the boards so the heads need to be cleaned up but for less the 200 your lookin at pretty decent gains in power.
Also if your gonna do more then a few mods you will need a custom chip burn
but not a generic aftermarket unit check out the prom burning sections for more on that

Re: how much power will I feel in a 90rs f/m intake swap?
I had a 1990 305 TBI - Did every mod in the book, including new intake, headers, LT1 cam, 1.6:1 rollertip rockers, ported/polished #416 heads, etc, so on - and what I learned was 1) there isn't much you can do without a custom chip, 2) it's next to impossible to get a custom chip made without getting the equipment, taking the learning curve, and doing it yourself, and 3) you still don't "feel" much of anything from it all.
305 mods aren't for daily driver rides - there's too much needs tweaked after a mod to be able to drive it daily (ie. you'll have more than a single day of downtime with the car, o if you need the car tomorrow, don't mod it today).
Wanna feel it something - spend the cash on better rear end gears! TBI cars come with 2.73 peg legs, swap in a 3.08 or 3.42 posi rear end and you'll feel much more than any engine mod will give without alot of time and headache. That's a one day swap, cheap, easy, and gives way more "feeling it".

vortec heads require a vortec specific intake and have 64cc chambers versus 58cc on the stock heads.

I have to slightly disagree with this as far as the 081's. They really aren't any better than the swirlies unless ported and even then the stock heads make more torque. I know I ***** this thread out alot but I did alot of research for this.

Thanks again!! About how much would it cost me to have my heads breathe better? Or should I look for others? I can get the stock tpi, 86 iroc heads cheap, they any better? I have a hard time finding any valve covers for my car because of the bolts being in the top.. where do I look, well, I need diff heads.. Or should I have mine done, I can also get a set of world prouducts heads for 600, but was not wanting to spend that at the moment.. any suq..

- unless it was a project car, you have unlimited time/cash to throw at it, and are extremely bored! There's no replacement for displacement - the lesson learned here is to not race a 305 against anything for cash! Wanna throw cash away? Invest in Wall Street!I'd say leave the g/f's car alone, and get yourself a project that isn't required to be driven daily so you can spend the time and effort required to go out and lose your cash & your license street racing - women are particular about having a decent running car. Keep playing with hers and you'll be out a car AND a girlfriend!

If you lost by only a fender, that LT1 was in dire straits anyway. I own a 1990 305 TBI with all the mods, a 1992 with a 350 carb and a ton of mods, and also own a 1997 Z28 with a LT1 - Trust me - You'll never beat a decent running LT1 with a 305, at least not economically. It could be done, but the time and money invested in it would be

Re: how much power will I feel in a 90rs f/m intake swap?
I have owned my car for over 5 years and it's been DD'ed for the entire time and I know from experience that with good planning you can do MANY mods to a 305 daily driver in one day and not have alot of down time. I have to do alot of my mods in either one day or over a weekend because I need the car to go to work. The longest my car has been down was a week and that was when I gutted my engine harness. So if you have everything you need and not have to go back and forth to the parts store to get stuff it can be done.
