5.0 build
5.0 build
before i go blowing money on a 5.0 rebuild. here are somethings i need to know
should i just get a regular rebuild kit and stock replacement connecting rods or should i go with the forged set up on a 305?
keep tbi or swap a carb with the edelbrock torker intake and lunati cam both operate at 2500-6500 rpm. would that be too much for the 305?
i never really modded an engine so what would be good mods for this tired 305 to bring it back to life. its got a knock in it. the onlything done to car so far is magnaflow exhaust with tips and what looks to be new ypipe and a holley open element air cleaner.
someone please help me

I would get a good rebuilt short block and spend as much money as you can on a good set of heads. A pair of Edelbrock Performer or Performer RPM can had for around $1000. If you have the dough, go for AFR 180cc heads.
You might also consider building a 350 instead of the 305. Won't cost any more and you'll have 50 extra CID. If you go this route, you will need to learn to tune, but if you want more power with the 305, you'll be in the same boat.
ALL stock GM connecting rods are forged. Unless you run nitrous or a supercharger, you don't need forged pistons.
I think a good TBI 350 would be great, and a lot of people on the site have done it before and can help you out.

Re: 5.0 build
Agree, engine likely already dead.
You need to use a computer controlled distributor. Should be able to use the one on your 305. Just check for wear. Likely will need a couple of shims to get the shaft end-play within spec.
