193 tbi heads

I have a set of gone threw 193 swirl port heads(new guides,Re-surfaced,3 angle valve job, mild porting,120lbs springs, all new hardware) given to me they look jest like the vortec heads but there not iv been told there great ware torque is needed they have have 64cc combustion chambers because there swirl port heads i was told there only good up to 4,500rpm What do you guys think about these heads any one have any experience with them form what i see some people like em some people hate em i don't know why but im having a hard time finding vortec heads i thought these where vortecs till i ran the numbers and can i run a vortec intake with these are they better then the stock 350 heads back in the day?

My engine
1970 350 2 bolt
4.000 bore
268h comp cams 454/454 lift
Flat top pistons(cast speed pros)
1.5 roller tip rockers
750 holly
Msd hei
jest started this build so its all fresh

this is all going in my 1970 Monte carol it had a set of cracked 882 heads i want to run mid 13s in the 1/4 mile the car weights around 4075 lb

Re: 193 tbi heads

Vortec intake will not bolt to the 193 heads.

193 heads are not high hp/rpm heads, however they do work well on heavy cars.

The main difference, Vortecs would keep making power past 5000rpm and the 193 will peak around 4500rpm and maybe 5000rpm ported.

Not sure if you have this cam http://www.jegs.com/i/Comp-Cams/249/...36#moreDetails this cam has probably a little too much duration to match stock 193 heads.

Re: 193 tbi heads

Ewwww! Yuck! Why would anyone consider porting, paying for a valve job, etc etc etc on crappy-a$$ TBI heads? What a waste of cash! I wouldn't even use a set for a boat anchor!

Then, to put them on a 350 that is going to be carbed anyway? Talk about a downer! I'd rather have large chamber 1970's smog heads on my 350 than swirl-ports anyday! Just about any head would be better for you I'd think.

Re: 193 tbi heads

The guy that i got them form worked at a machine shop he did all the work to them and gave them to me form what i here there great at low rpms and all moat any head is better then a 882 head there a light weight casting and most of them are cracked AKA boat anchor worthy, the 193s have thick wall bronzes guides new valves springs seals retainers and have 1.94/1.60 valves i thought they would be better then the old school sbc heads but then again maby not

I would send a PM to Fast355. He is a pro with these heads and if you saw his dyno runs in his van people would never say "crappy TBI heads" again. Putting a little money into a set of heads that you already own is not always a bad idea. It saves you from having to buy many other parts.

Re: 193 tbi heads

Any regular intake manifold should fit. The center 4 bolts are at 72° on the 193.

Not sure how much rwhp it would take for mid 13's with 4075 lb.

Not sure, worst case you would probably need to elongate the the 4 center holes. I don't remember were but I saw some angle shaped washers somewhere too.
