Dist gear for LT1 cam in TBI

According to my sources, I should be able to use the stock billet LT1 cam with the factory dist gear. I would just like to confirm this before I fire it, because the cam is already in the engine and I can't get a good look at it.

Engine is from a 94 Z71, but according to Napa the dist gear is the same PN as a late Third-gen. I would just like to be sure that my factory flat-tappet equipped dist gear will not chew up the billet LT1 cam gear.

I'm excited to light the fire on my 9.1:1 Vortec roller conversion!

yes you can... I'm tuning MY LT1 with opti setup... then replacing with my conventional distributor with the opti set up inside.. then DR chain & electric water pump
and that is not a 92 - 97 LT1... but I read you have a LT1 cam.. again yes

The engine is a 94 truck LO5 with f/t cam from the factory.

I think the gears are the same too. I know the L03's have roller cams so they'd have the proper gear but since your using a truck engine w/o a roller its a little more questionable. But I do remember checking on distributors awhile back. and noticed teh truck's and car's distributor was the same part # so i figure they used the same gear.

Re: Dist gear for LT1 cam in TBI

In the research I've done the recommendation is for a soft gear (composite/bronze) on a billet cam, but the standard gear on a factory roller (TPI for example) that is not billet. The fact that the LT1 cam is factory and is roller is where the water gets a little muddy.

But if the LO3 guys are using their factory dist gear with an LT1 cam and not having problems, it seems feasible that I should be fine with my factory dist gear that shows the same PN on parts sites.

Thanks guys!

I've found this site to be much more knowledgeable on TBI stuff than the truck forums, and much better with OBD1 tuning than the Beretta forums. haha
