crossfire 1.6 rocker arm upgrade

What 1.6 ratio rocker arms work great for the 83 crossfire injection 305 with stock head and camshaft ? Where can I get Pontiac valve covers?

I don't know the crossfire LU5? heads, but mainly the stock 3d gen heads use self aligning rockers on a 3/8 in. stud. You will probably need self-aligning rockers, narrow body or not will probably not matter if you have perimeter valve covers.

I have 1.5 Scorpion roller rockers on my DIY 360, I know they also make 1.6 roller rockers http://www.scorpioncheckout.com/Sear...lts.asp?Cat=54

Crossfire used either 416 or 601s and perimeter bolt valve covers.

Sure will, just make sure that you get non self aligning rockers on the older perimeter bolt valve cover heads.

Learn something new everyday. I never had run across those early 081 heads. I wonder if the early 083 heads were the same way.

According to this and other post https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/tech...-arm-self.html prior to 1987 use non self aligning rockers.

Can always check and verify under the valve covers.

Re: crossfire 1.6 rocker arm upgrade

Yeah there are not self aligning rocker arms on factory 83 CFI 305s. But I want to upgrade to 1.6 ratio self aligning rocker arms

Then why are you looking in to self aligning rockers?

Re: crossfire 1.6 rocker arm upgrade

Was wondering because generally, guide plates with not self aligning rocker arms is supposed to be better.

Re: crossfire 1.6 rocker arm upgrade

common wisdom is that you run SA rockers OR guide plates, not both.

if you want SA, just dump the guide plates... i assume that's your plan?

but that's dumb too, since NSA (guideplates, no tabs on the rockers) yeilds a much more stable valvetrain at high rpm.

although i do know one "rebel" that's run chinese made SA aluminum rockers with a guideplate setup on a nos monster for many race seasons pulling low 9s, and the valvetrain is the only thing that hasn't broken.... so... i guess it depends...
