Porting
I want to know how much power can I get from porting a 305 tpi 081 casting head I am not familiar with porting and this is my first built please explain pros and cons of porting heads. Thank you
Re: Porting
1. Before you start, buy David Vizard's book on porting for the beginner. It's wonderful--highly recommended. Everything you want to know is in there.

2. How much power will that T5 take before it shatters? It takes a heap of aftermarket parts to turn a T5 into something that isn't a turd.

Re: Porting
T5s aren't that bad, even if you do powershift them and do clutch-dumps.
I'd rather have 081s than World 305 Torquers, but porting won't get them too far even with bigger valves, the same investment will get you milled Vortecs, or an L31 swap, which is the best value.

Re: Porting
In actually porting a set of 081 heads right now. They can be opened up quite a bit. Even for a fun street 350. I do agree that a set of L31 Vortecs are miles above these in even ported form.

Thanks, it's not even my best stuff. This is just a set I'm doodling on. My bread and butter is LT1 stuff. I have more pics on my Facebook page in my sig.

Re: Porting
Whether its your best stuff or not, looks great! Keep up the good work.
Re: Porting
Do you have some flow numbers/velocity numbers? Are they still 1.84" or have you opened them up to 1.94 or even 2.02?
How much chamber work have you done to unshroud the intake valve, what kind of low lift flow gains have you seen?
I am going to get into a project soon with the 081 heads going on a 4.030" bore block. Going to use stock TBI stuff so I want as much flow as I can gain down low lift.
