I'm going to make a cold air setup like the one in the '87 hotrod magazine article. If I could find, or make a plug for the hood scoop for when it rains or snows this would be great.

my Formula came with a setup from an early thirdgen TA. They have rain gutters for the opening. Maybe you can find one in a junk yard.

I'd rather make my own setup, and use a scoop plug like they have for fiberglass hoods.

DUMB DUMB DUMB Why would anyone cut a hole in a cowl hood?! Totally stupid and a waste of good sheet metal. After it's done it will look unprofessional.

Try an open element filter and remove the block off plate from the cowl. You can find a older TA in a bone yard which had cross fire injection to get the screen for the cowl.

Other nicer options are:

VFN 4" cowl hood
HAWKS Ram Air Hood
RAM Air box
Dual Snorkel Air Filter housing

Yeah, why would they. WTF. It doesn't say to cut a hole in the hood.

I re-read it.. my bad. The hole is cut in the aluminum sheet that attaches to the underside of the cowl... Then the filter lid seal against the aluminum... AHA!!

I would try this and USE K&N's new filter top for even more air flow.. This should work pretty good on my 383. Then I'll compare this to the "Ram Air Box" I have, and to just an Open element.
