heads

if i get my stock 305 tbi head port and polished and maybe get a 1.94 intake valve put in would that make a huge diff or would it be cheaper to get the s/r torquer 305 heads and bolt them on. also with the l31 vortech heads i woudl have to get them milled but how much would that cost cause i hear they flow better then and world or dart head

Don't waste your time/money with the stock heads, they stink. The L31 heads are really good heads, but as you said you'll have to get them milled and you'll have to get a Vortec specific intake manifold. The 305 torquers aren't a bad head, but they don't flow as well as the Vortecs. You won't have to get 'em milled nor will you need a special intake. The heads themselves cost more, but in the end will probably end up being a bit less expensive than going with the Vortecs.

I'd go Vortec if I were you...just my opinion.

Regardless of what's been said the Vortec's don't have to be milled and they run very strong.

they said u need to have them milled or u will lose compression. and my compression is already 9.3 so what do u think it would drop it down to if i put the vortec heads on and don't get them milled? also i figure no matter how far it drops it u still gotta be better off with the vortecs then the ****ty tbi heads

The compression loss is overrated. All I know that it's a different engine (much stronger running) after installing them.

OK, so, these S/R heads are excellebnt compared to stockers, but not quite as good as L31's. But they dont need to be milled to keep compression. They are more expensive off the shelf. Uh, whats their PN? Also, about what prices would I be looking at for new, COMPLETE assebmlies of the vortecs (L31), and the S/R's? THanks

For new L31's look at www.paceparts.com www.sdpc2000.com and www.jegs.com .

They used to be $220 a head I think. They went up recently though, think they are somewhere around $240 now.
