MAF sensor plug broken, won't stay connected. ARGH!

Hey guys, i just got through putting on a homemade CAI, and somehow in the process, the plug that goes into the MAF sensor got broken. I'm talking about the housing around the prongs that the wire plugs onto. Its not just the clip, but the entire housing is broken off, and the prongs are totally exposed. Because of this, the plug won't stay on, and my MAF keeps getting disconnected. Any ideas on a cheap way to fix this, besides getting an entire new MAF sensor?

thats kinda what i was thinking. I mean the plug goes on, if there were some way to just secure it on there, i could just splice in another type of connector.
would it be a terrible idea to solder the wires to the prongs and then put in some different connector somewhere else on the wire? I think we may have pigtails at work (kragen) that i could get to work. ugh, I just don't want to think about it I'll look at it in the morning.

I'm not sure what stores are around you, but A&A, Key Parts, and Pep Boys usually have these connectors in stock, ready to solder/splice in.

Otherwise, check the Help section, or cut a good one off a junker.

If you search this Tech forum for "MAF Connector", you'll find a message where I gave out the part #s for both the 3 pin and 5 pin f-body MAF sensors (from Motormite).

its not really the connector i need, the plug thats on the sensor. I hate to replace the wholesensor just because of some stupid broken plug. I can get that connector through work for $38 (bah thats kragen for you) but I'm gonna try soldering.

So how bad am I messing up my stuff everytime i drive w/o a MAF sensor working? I mean it runs and drives ok, just idles rough and dies if i don't keep the RPMs up. I gotta wait til tomorrow to go to the junkyard and try to find another MAF sensor, so if I have to drive it will I be ok for the day?

it can't do any permanent damage... it will just cause you not to have good performance or drivability..

Ok. Now its really broken. The thin wire inside the sensor got broken. I dont konw whether i just did it or if it's been that way, but I'm gonna need a new sensor, unless there's some way to bypass it, at least for now.

Anyone got an extra MAF sensor they wanna kick down?

I don't think I follow you chief. You can drive around for 2 years without an MAF and it's not going to harm the computer in any way.

Your ECM recieves codes from all the sensors in your car, after it gathers them all up then it tells the certains parts in the engine, like more gas, more air, etc. The maf sensor tells the ecm the amount of air. Well anyways i hope i don't look like an a$$, well hopefully someone can explain it better!

The original poster said "mess with", not "mess up". It won't hurt the ECM. But it will send its little silicon brain into logic ****-fits.
