Are the flow numbers better? I'm thinking of replacing my stock l98 iron heads with stock Vette heads...and then putting in a good-cheap-mild cam. Just wanted to clarify that the Vette heads flow better. I realize compression increases too.

"Stock vette heads" Is somewhat vague
But I'll assume you mean aluminum L98's in which case they Do flow better because of their Dport exhaust. And not to mention aluminum casts better.
Plus the bonus of higher compression.

They do flow better, altho they still aren't great. The big advantage of the vette heads is you can port the snot out of them much easier.
www.fl-thirdgen.org huh? when did that open up? I ran a florida thirdgen board on discussionboard.com for awhile, but it went nowhere.

As for the heads...yes, Vette Aluminum L98. Not real interested in spending a lot of money on them. Found somewhere I can get them fairly reasonable. Just gotta decide on the cam, now.
I'm doing 8.9s right now. Hoping for some 8.7s with Vette heads, mild cam, and headers coming...in the 8th mile of course

i'm assuming you have a roller block in which case there really isn't a cheap cam for you. i got my lt4 hot cam from scogin dickey for 185 shipped, most other places it's over 200, and it's probably the cheapest roller cam i've seen. in addition to the above advantages, the Al heads also come with screwed in studs from the factory and are of course lighter, enough to make my front end sit a tad high.

HOw much better would the LT4 hot cam be over say...a ZZ4 cam?
I think the ZZ4 cam is bout 100 bucks, is it not?
If I decided to splurge a little...what would be the best cam for LTRs, Accel intake, headers, Vette heads, stock short block?
I was thinking the Accel 74211. But its about 300.
I'm leaning towards the ZZ4 cam, unless a more expensive cam just makes a lot more power.

according to dyno2k i make 349hp@5k with the zz4 cam and 353hp@5k with the hot cam which also has a flatter torque curve.
check out scoggin dickey's selection of gmpp cams, there's about six that are decent and all under $215
