SSE,

Change the format of the file to a *.jpg or *.gif. The file size needs to be less than 100K to be attached.

Sorry about the delay. I would have replied sooner, but it seems that one of our members emailed me with a virus attached. Peter Norton and me had to waste four or five minutes in cleaning it up. If you get any mail from and address starting with "pi@" or a batch file attached, just dump it, unless you're using Norton AV 2002 with the current updates. Then you can have some fun with it.

Amateurs...

If you have Office 2000, the Microsoft Photo Editor can do it.

EVERYTHING is buggy in Windows, ME and NT included. We should ALL be running a UNIX-based system. I can't wait for someone to offer a packaged OS with a "friendly" graphical interface like Windows was always supposed to be (but always failed in). That would make for some cheap, available office space in Redmond...

Who the F*CK says it isn't a monopoly? When MicroFlaccid can keep the other, better systems off the market, THAT is a monopoly. (Where DID I put that thermonuclear device, anyway?)

M$ Is without a doubt a monopoly, from their web browser to their operating systems. Nobody else can get in sideways to offer a better OS.

Gimp

Graphic Image Manipulation Program

Something that comes installed with most linux Distrobutions and stomps the living chit out of what M$ offers... (paint)...

tpi_roc, I knew you were a unix nerd when I saw your avatar was an OpenStep icon. I wrote 'Gimp Essential Reference', maybe you've heard of it?

Slowstangeater, download GIMP at http://www.gimp.org/win32

You needed Vader for this, I would have checked sooner. In paint I downsize to about 45% of the original, depending on the original size. Then like said, save as a JPEG file.

I'd never use Microsoft Paint for anything serious... do you think that's why they made it? Hell, Solitaire was originally made so that people could learn how to use the mouse.

I don't see how you guys think MS is a monopoly on the operating system. (I think they were trying to monopolize the browser, though.) But if people like Windows, they'll use Windows. If people like Unix, they'll use Unix. Not many people are exposed to unix compared to MS Windows- and that's more of a fault with Unix's advertising than it is with Microsoft.

I can't ever remember hearing an advertisement for Unix or Linux.

I prefer an Intel over an AMD- does that mean Intel has a monopoly on processors? Or, (gasp), do Intel and AMD hold monopolies against the Apple RISC processor?

It's become a consumer market; and if the majority use Windows, Windows will seem to have a monopoly. I prefer MS Windows myself. I've used unix at the command line level, but can't stand the gui shells I've seen (like Xterm). That doesn't mean Xterm stinks, it just means that I'm more productive with Windows, so, why bother with Xterm?

Why are we talking about this anyway??

Linux is an operating system created and maintained by the public, for the public, the **** you see on the shelf at fry's is only a book with a cd as a free gift.

You just re-inforced my point. Sorry for the shyster gag.

If it's created and maintained by the public, for the public...

...why doesn't the public know about it??

Your point is null and void.

And has no involvement with thirdgens.

If you seriously want to know why linux/unix is a far superior (however unpopular) operating system then contact me personally and I'll count the ways. Untill then this thread should remain thirdgen based.

No, my point was made. I never said Unix wasn't (or is) superior, but it's not used as much as MS Windows, that was the point of my original reply. No worries! (Was this thread ever thirdgen based?) It's the same reason that the Mustang's being made and the f-bodies aren't anymore; more people knew about the Mustangs. But I still prefer an f-body, and I still prefer Windows. You can like a unix-based system too!
