won't start

My car won't start! The battery is fully charged. It won't even click when I turn the key. I replaced the starter Sunday to fix the problem, and it started right up. I let it run for a while, then when I went to drive it later, it wouldn't start again. Battery is still good, and the starter is almost new. Could my ignition switch be bad? Any help would be great.

Won't Start

Sounds similar to my problem. The guys on this site told me to check the VATS. I'm not sure yet but the chip on the key may be the trouble. The blue dog has started right up everytime since so have not been able to prove it.

My car isn't equipped with VATS, there is nothing special about my keys. Shouldn't the key look different if equipped with VATS?

Won't start

Yep - the key has a little black piece of plastic (?) and in the middle of the plastic there appears to be a littler piece of metal
( the chip). My chip is gold in color. It's about 1/3 the way down the key shank from the handle and sticks out both sides.
Other thoughts - the starter needs to be shimmed away from the starter ring correctly or it will drag. Also I've had battery cables go bad on the inside. You can't see it easily from the outside. Try probing on the bottom by the terminal. Good Luck

still wont start

Well it finally happened again. Would not start, not even crack, no click, nothing. I had another ignition key with chip waiting. From your info, I knew it was the problem, but no same things. I moved the tilt wheel top to bottom and turned the wheel side to side, nothing. The security light comes on when I turn the key on and stays on when I go to start. The radio cuts out, but head lights do not dim. Mine is an A4 so no clutch lockout. Also no cruise. Is there something else in the VATS besides the chip and trans lockout that has to do with starting or do I need to look someplace else?

I got mine fugured out. Before I start the car I wiggle the key and works everytime. I think the sensors the reads the chips is already worn out.....maybe

Brian,
did you figure out what the problem was? I'm having the same problem. I turn the key and nothing, not even a clicking noise, and I also have a fresh battery, alternator, coil, ignition module, maf burn and power relays, and nothing. I didn't take the starter out and have it checked yet, but I was wondering how you made out. I don't have VATS either, so we both know that's not the problem.

Ok, if you already changed the module, and the car doesn't stall, but when you turn it off and try to turn it right back on it could be your injectors. I talked to a coulple of people and told them about my problem and they said it could be the injectors. Just an FYI for ya.

Still won't start

I tried turning the key to on, just before start, and then jumped across the starter. The thing cranks great, but will not start. There must be something that has the fuel and/or distributor turned off. Any thoughts
How much computer does this car have? Does it have a "Black Box" and could that be the trouble. The black box problems I have heard about have to do with running not starting.
