The peanut cam is the camshaft that was installed in LG4's, L03's and LB9 automatics. The reason it has it's name is because it has really sad duration and lift specs....

It's manufactured from peanuts.

It's unfortunate the cost-cutting lengths that GM will go to sometimes.

Although, it's not as bad as the time that I took apart a Chevette, and realized that there were Mexican hamsters running the whole thing. Cheaper than American hamsters, I suppose.

Whoa man, you are being too generous to the "Peanut Cam" by a country mile!

It's real lift is .350 intake and .385 exhaust

Yeah, I rubbed my eyes the first time I saw it, too

As Apeiron once told me, "It's easy to have 18 pounds of vacuum when your valves are never open!"

In all fairness, most peanuts have larger lumps than this cam profile. To prevent insulting most self-respecting peanuts, I began a campaign several years ago to rename the design the "LA" cam (LameAss). It seems more appropriate.

The one good thing that can be said for the profile is that it will support decent low RPM torque and provide a smooth idle, and is certainly never going to stress the valve train.
