Forgot a plug?

I think the reason my oil psi is only around 30 is because that the plug under the rear main cap is missing. Is there anything i can do to fix this problem without ripping out the engine? Please help.

NOt sure about the plug, but 30 psi seems ok to me. 10 psi for every 1k rpms is what you want to be at.

ok 30 psi is just fine if that is at idle. but if thats at wide open your oil pump may be a lil worn. also how many miles does it have. My new motor has 14,000 miles on it with only 3,000 on the xtreme energy comp cam. My oil pressure stays at 60 psi at all times unless its realy hot out and its at idle it will go around 25-30.

Unless you built the engine from a bare block or actually removed the restrictor plug, it should be there. But if it isn't, I THINK you can get to it by just removing the oil pan.

ok if it is brand new and only 30 psi i would fix it, cuz when u break it in and it gets warm the pressure will drop and at idle u wont have enough to feed the engine.

Mine runs at 60 when cruising and about 25 at warm Idle with a mechanical gauge..I would also think 30 on a new motor is way low. I cant help ya with the plug, sorry

if there is a plug missing from a oil passage yopu need to install it and you sould not start the engine without it, reguardless of what oil preasure you have. without the plug oil is bypassing something it should be going to.

Remove the oil pressure sending unit and push a long wire
( your engine's dipstick will probably work ) into the oil
gallery until it stops.
Measure the depth the indicator went into the block.
If it stops at 8", then the plug is place I checked it on
a Chevy 350 a few months ago.
