305 ideas

Look, I just want to say right now that I'm going to college and furthering my education in order to make the big bucks later. Then I can afford the big engines. Right now I just want to mod my 305 just so I can have a Quick car. I'm not getting a 350. I've just got a 305 with 60,000 miles on it. And I'd rather see a modded 305 than a modded 350...I'm for the underdog...

ok ok ok ..... ...

now ....how does this sound

going down to 3.73 gears...

305
quadrajet
performer intake (non-egr)
Comp Cams XE262H-10
3000 rpm stall
416 heads (milled for higher compression)
Accel supercoil
Edelbrock TES
Catco universal
flowmaster 80 series exhaust
turbo350 with B&M shiftkit
Dual snorkel Ram-air

Now with those heads....if i didnt port them myself...could i still fit a 1.94 valve in..........in place of 1.84....???

Rob..

i'm just looking for around 250 - 75 horse....

after these mods i think i'd be lucky to hit... 225 hp...

I got 282 hp @ 5000 and 340 trq @ 3500, I ran it with stock heads because I don't have a flow file for the 416's. I used everything else you mentioned, I imagine it would be higher with better heads.

If you're going with an Edelbrock intake get the RPM. That Peformer is a waste with 3:73s and a 3000 stall.

I just got the Stealth intake idle-7k rpms.

are you copying me? that combo should be pretty good, especially if you port the heads.

Yeah, for a DD that might be too much, a little less should be fine. I'd go with maybe a 2600 or so.

The Stealth intake is like $50 cheaper than the RPM, Summit has it for $109, Jegs $170, go figure.

I know what you mean about the Summit cam, they're cheap. And I was going to go the same route. And I was informed on here, that the Summit cam's are based on 80s technology. So, in short a cam is a great way to increase power, and is a lot of work, so don't try to cheap out on it. Spend the money on a good one.

Go for the Stealth instead of the Performer RPM. The RPM is difficult to get under the hood of a thirdgen.

The XE262 is a little iffy in my books. An XE256 or Crane PowerMax 266 or 260 might work better. It is simply a matter of lift with stock valve springs, and engine vacuum at idle. Some folks like the 262 and with your higher stall converter you might be OK. The Crane PowerMax cams are a newer grind than the Comp XEs, though.

It will be an excellent little 305

thanx for the input on cams... i really dont want to screw that up..

I want something that is noticible at idle....but...t hat comes secondary.. i guess ..to the power ..that i want.. I definately love the sound of a good cam.

This car is going to be running the 1/8 about 10 times a year bracket racing also i might add....

Ill take a look at the cams you suggested..(as you can tell i dont know much about cams)

Thank you.

NO WORRIES MAN!!!

YOU CAN DO IT!!! I even did it

No kidding, it is not very hard. Just follow what I did and you will be A-OK!

What is really cool is getting an extra 30 hp and being able to reuse them on your next 350 or 400 V8. Mmm, mmm good

I purchased the Standard Abrasive Deluxe head port kit and it cost me $110 Canadian. Then I had to rent an electric die grinder for $50/week, and it took me a week. I also had to spend about $40 on carbide cutting bits.

In retrospect, I would not bother with the Standard Abrasives kit. I'd just buy the four carbide cutters I suggest in the thread and rent the electric die grinder. They are all you actually need.

Read the entire thread through and if you need more advice, let me know.

No kidding, you CAN do this
