Well I would recommend doing it on a fuel injection car. It will set the knock sensor off and run like ****, but if you have carb car then go for it.

I wish this stupid "urban legend" would just go away once and for all...

I've got one, its EDELBROCK not pete jackson but its the same thing, Ive installed both on difference engine and they are identical, even price-wise. Right now my engine is open headers, so the only thing making noise is my ear-drums yelling at me to shut it off. I also have a blower which should make its own whining noise, but I cant hear that either. Yeah, this thing is loud. getting exhaust monday, should have pics soon too. The sad thing is, the Whine of the gear drive sounds like a blower right? BUt I do have a blower, but my blower is QUIET at idle, so at idle when my gear drive is whining people will be like "hey you have a blower!" But ill say "no! thats not the blower making that noise! its my gear drive!!!!" And they wont beleive me... heh sheesh.

I had a gear drive on my 79 Silverado 4x4. At first it drove me crazy but after a while I got used to the noise . It took some time though.
I have the Pete Jackson geardrive. I had it in my car for about a year. I couldn't stand it. It's for sale. $75 +s/h and it's yours. Easy to install. Much easier than a timing chain. My chain gave me hell. If your interested E-mail me. bhaas@bigfoot.com

Ok, you know, lets address this issue... Its not vibration, this particular gear drive uses a floating idler gear, which effectivelly MOVES and CUSHIONS and WOBBLES and JOUNCES, BOUNCES, SLIPS and Slides around to ABSORB all the nasty "vibrations".... HOWEVER, there is the issue of a "Solid" Connection between the crank and the cam, which, unlike a timing chain, does NOT allow for "play" (every .030" of Chain Stretch Retards Cam Timing 2* 0 If i remember correctly) in THAT respect... The result? Not Vibrations... but we do have a "rigidity" that negativelly impacts one thing: Distributor Gear. Using a Gear Drive is like using a Roller cam... Its so rigid it can cause spark scatter or pre-mature camshaft wear if you dont use a Bronze Gear instead of the iron one... Bronze is much softer and absorbs that nasty "rigidity". There is some "Speculation" of how a Gear drive would also Increase Valve Train wear because of this rigidness... especially in a Solid Lifter Application.. but NOTHING is proven to this respect... its all Idle Speculation.
