What's a good Battery Brand to purchase and what's the largest CCA batt I can fit??

I purchased a brand new battery for my car about 8 months ago. Latley I've been experiencing slow cranking, I was thinking it was maybe the starter or a bad connection. I did a load test on it and sure enough the battery turned out to be bad. I purchased the battery from Wal Mart and unfortunatly have misplaced the reciept. I would like to go with a battery that can handle some abuse. I'm just looking for a standard type battery, I can't afford a gel cell right now. Also what's the largest cold cranking amp battery I can fit in my car??

i got a group 77 I think from advance auto

its like 1000amps and 800CCA.

It fits in a group 24 box bc I have it in the moroso battery box in the rearhatch. You might have to do something with the holddown for a stock mount.

Go with the optima red top. Awesome battery, and they have finaly come down in price around here. I picked one up for $120 a few months ago. They come with top and side post so you can hook it right up or do the smart thing and switch to top post. IMO side post is crap, they seem to corrode alot more and you cant clean them as easily when they do. That may be all your problem is, some dirty cable ends. Anyways like I said the optima rocks.

I ride with the Sears DieHard Gold in all of my cars. Makes the harsh mid western winters and blazin' summers a piece of cake.

I have to get a shout out to the Duralast sold by Autozone.
These batteries have done nothing but amaze me for the last couple of years.
My project car though out the winter was only started a few times but yet I didn't have to charge it come summer.

I've never had crap for luck with Checker Auto Exide batteries?
I've got one in the garage now that's crystalized. WTF

Do you guys know there's only a few companies out there that make your own batteries? Walmart and Kmart and Target and Pep Boys and Autozone and etc are selling exide or GNB or another crap company's batteries. Go ahead, examine the label, you'll find "made by zzzzz" in tiny print. Plus, those batteries usually sit for long amounts of time in the warehouse before coming out to the floor.

You want a battery made by the people that sell it... and that leaves you with a few options: Sears, AC/Delco, Interstate. Optima is made by Interstate, by the way... funny how the Optimas are so powerful, eh? I haven't heard of an Exide being "the best battery" for car stereo competitions.

Shoot, interstate used to have a page from their site ( http://www.interstatebatteries.com ) that listed common battery brands (walmart) and their true makers. What I thought was cool was that they showed Diehard as being made/sold (exclusively) by Sears, and AC/Delco as being made by AC/Delco.

I have a big frickin' Interstate in mine. At the time, it was more powerful (CCA, never look at CA) than the Diehard Gold- but I never had a problem with my old Diehard gold.

Oh and largest CCA usually changes over time- but by the good battery makers. Places like Interstate & Diehard are always improving their battery technology. A few months later, my dad replaced his trucks' battery with a Diehard gold. His truck uses the same size battery as our f-bodies- and his newer Diehard had more CCA than my Interstate. But when I bought my interstate, at the time, the diehard gold was rated less.
