The Misunderstood 305
THE 305 IS THA SAME STROKE AS A 350, SMALLER BORE, SO PISTONS ARE LIGHTER, BETTER REVING THAN A 350, THERE IS A STROKER KIT FOR THIS MOTOR TO BOCOME A 335 STROKER FOR A MERE 600 BUCKS, IVE EVEN SEEN AS LOW AS 450, THIS KIT ADDS 95 HORSES CARBED OR 115 HORSES INJECTED, A STROKED 305 WILL EASILY BREATHE PROPER WITH A 750 HOLLEY ON A EDELBROCK VICTOR JR INTAKE, THE BEST HEADS FOR THIS IS THE GM L31 VORTEC HEADS, 400 BUCKS NEW, THIS COMBINATION IS OVER A HUNDRED MORE HP ADDED TO THE STROKER KIT WITH THE RIGHT CAM, ADD GEAR DRIVE, ELEC WATER PUMP AND SHORTY HEADERS AND YOU WILL HAVE A MOTOR THAT REVS QUICKER THAN A 350 AND STILL HAS REASONABLE TORQUE, THIS COMBO WILL RESULT TO A POSSABLE 375 TO 400 HP, STROKER KIT 95 HP, HEAD-INTAKE-CAM COMBO-100 HP, GEAR DRIVE-ELEC WATERPUMP-HEADERS APPROX 40 HP, PLUS THE STOCK HP OF 170 ADDS TO BE AN REALISTIC 400 HP, HAS NE BODY HEARD OF BUYING USED PARTS , LIKE INTAKE CARB HEADERS ECT. THE ROTATING ASSY SHOULD BE THE ONLY THING NEW REALLY, THE ONLY OTHER COST IS THE MACHINING, FOR ME ABOUT 300 BUCKS.
I HAVE A 305 IM DOING THIS ALL TO, ILL HAVE IT DONE FOR LESS THAN 2000 BUCKS, THIS INCLUDES THE HOLLEY PROJECTION 4 900 CFM, WHY A LARGE THROTTLE BODY? CAUSE MY LATER ADDITION WILL BE TWIN GARRET T03 TURBOS, THE 305 IS A SLIGHTLY SMALLER BORE 350, BUT HAS POTENTIAL, YOU KNOW THERES BEEN A CHEVY SMALL BLOCK OF ONLY AROUND 200 CI THAT WAS TWIN TURBO, FUEL INJECTED WITH A SHORT STROKE THAT PRODUCED OVER 800 HP, CUBES ARENT EVERYTHING, ITS ALL ABOUT FUEL AND AIR, MOST POSSIBLE WITH THE PROPER IGNITION, THATS IT, SIMPLE....... THE FASTER A MOTOR REVS THE MORE CFM YOU WILL NEED TO PAAS THROUH IT, ITS JUST A PUMP........LATE

I think almost everyone would tell you to save your $$$ and get a 350 instead. I'd have to agree.
If the 305 shortblock is in good shape, then do the usual mods. But stroking a 305 out to 330-odd inches in not economically rational.

Put the crack pipe down. If 305s were THAT great everybody would be using them to build fast drag cars. But we both know that's not happening. Why ? Because for HP you need FLOW. And the stock 1.94 valves in the 305 won't cut it. Going bigger is impossible because of the small bore of the 305. Stop trying to reinvent the wheel and build SMART. Build a big cubic inch motor that's been proven, again and again. A 350

insults arent necessary....
if you read up on whats really going on, most 350s that produce lots of horsepower use 194 160 valves, plus 305s are used in racing already, nascar . n circletrack, plus hoddrodding is all about innovation, you do it your way ill do it mine, butt ill tell you what, theres a big chance that that 88 that passes you will be me.....
im just not affraid to be different, plus theres a 305 owned by a member here that will shred ya........ did ya know a stock 283 with an added crossram intake with a pair of holley 600s will produce 285hp.......late

I stopped reading when the kit added 95 horsepower. Don't believe everything you read or hear because obviously you've been fed a bunch of bullsh!t in the past and believed it. CAPS LOCK MEANS YOU ARE YELLING ONLINE, SO TRY NOT TO USE IT ALL THE TIME AS IT CAN BE VERY ANNOYING AND PEOPLE TEND TO NOT READ IT OR TAKE IT SERIOUSLY.

so i guess popular hotrodding, superchevy, car craft and many otheres are full of bull since the 60s huh? what do you read while in the shi&&er?? obviously you need to get an education......
..... its humboldt county, california.....
late................. like i said, i want to try this, i was going to biuld a 383 but they are prone to premature wear, as im sure this 305 project will be, but the idea of doing the slightly imposable is the driving interest behind this...... hey if it works and i blow it up after a month, i have a 350 4 bolt just kickin in storage already...... thats my 383 block.
................ yes i know what caps mean, its just a force of habit, i even handwrite all caps, who woulda guessed.........
