valve instalation
when purchasing new intake and exhaust valves do the valves come already cut and ready for lapping or does the machine shop have to match them to the head. Does anyone here know if I can buy vavlves that can be lapped in without going through the expense of a machine shop. Has anyone used the tools that are on the market to do a 3 angle valve job if so how did you like it. I think I have seen these tools in jc whitney or something like that.
Thanks

If the heads are already prepared (fresh valve grind), then you can lap the valves into them by hand without further machine work. If the heads are used, even for 1000 miles, get a new valve seat grind done to them at the machine shop. No point in going to the trouble and expense of new valves, and doing the job half-assed and installing an immediate future failure there.
Don't bother with the hand tool. It is for shadetree types at their very worst. Can you hold a hand drill accurately enough to put a 43, then a 45, then a 47 degree cut, perfectly centered, on 16 holes? I can't either.
