How well would powder coating hold on a valve cover?

I'm thinking about messing with my old valve covers and having them powder coated. How well would powder coating hold up on them? And what is a good way to get the buildup off of them? Thanks.

Powder coat holds up well on everything except exhaust. It's baked on at 400* so anything that gets hotter than that will melt the powder coat.

holds up real well. here's mine. the only thing i found that will attack powder coating is carb spray. powder coating is ground up plastic melted onto whatever you are coating at 400*

To get all the crust and disgust off your valve covers before painting them, a couple cans of carb cleaner should do the trick. You may not need to get them super clean though. Everytime I have taken something in to get it powdercoated, the powdercoating place will bead blast it to remove all the old paint and dirt.

One thing to think about guys, powder coating is pretty and stays looking that way, but it holds in heat! Just my $.02

but how much heat are valve covers responable for? i don't think they are a major cooling part to the car....go get an oil cooler if you are worried about it.

So will anyplace that powdercoats clean it up? The place here is a honda speed shop, and all I've heard is it's 40$ for anything the size of a 16 inch wheel. I haven't talked to them or anything yet, but that's what I heard. I guess i'll call them and ask them about it, get some more info on it...
