Custom cam question.

I am having a carbed 388 built and my engine builder wants to order a custom cam for it. It is going in a 388 with ported/polished 200cc 2.02 1.6 Dart IE heads, 1 3/4 super comp. headers, dual plane Stealth, flat top slp sitting on an eagle rotating assembly. Compression should be around 10.5 and this is the cam he wants to order, Bullet @.50 234 ex. duration, 244 int. duration, .570 lift on the intake and exhaust, with 102 centerline. I have DD this setup and the numbers seem ok, my question is what will this cam setup feel like in the real world? SOP is the all important factor to me.

Oh BTW it is a solid lifter cam.
once again, thank you all.

Those specs are very close to the Edelbrock Performer RPM camshaft that they sell for the Perf RPM package. I would think you can order something within a degree or two of that from Comp Cams or Crane, Lunati etc.

It would be a rough idling, shaky high-perf number for sure, but with mountains of mid-range torque pulling up through 6K - in my humble opinion.

Thanks for the reply.

Thanks for the reply. For some reason he is hell bent on getting this custom grind. Maybe it will hold more vacuum for my power brakes? Oh well it is just 20 bucks extra.

This going to be a street motor? I'm building a 383, 200 IEs, single plane holley, with a comp 314/600, small base cam. Had to grind about .060 off of the top sides of the rods and bolts. And I'm using the eagle sir rods with the small arp rod bolts. Your engine should have all kinds of torque and mid range power.

every cam i ever bought custom ground cost 20 or 25 more to grind, but i got it at wholesale direct from the grinder. for example last cam i got was a roller from lunati, cost around 450 from jegs, from lunati was 325 plus 25 for custom grind, saved me 100 dollars. he might just be doing this to make some extra cash.

Yes it is going to be a street motor. I told him what that I wanted a motor that I would be able to hook but come in strong
around 3000 rpm. The DD numbers seem right on for this. This is a friend of mine and he is factory direct with bullet cams so I don't think that he is screwing me on the price. Just cant wait to see how it idles, mild or wild?

I would think your idle would be a bit shaky considering your decent compression and somewhat long cam, but not a 1800 RPM race car idle. Probably 10 to 12 inches of vacuum at 900 RPM, that's my guess. Anyone sitting next to you at the lights will know there's something going on.
