Lumina SS

Any of y'all seen the Lumina SS? Saw one yesterday morning(I live in Qatar). Comes fresh out the box with 325 hp. Not sure if theyre available in the states or not, cause I havent heard much about them. Definitely bringing back some old school GM power.
Mods, feel free to move this, wasnt sure where to put it.

Is that by some chance an Austrailian-built Lumina?

Where are you from?? Not to argue with you , and I'm not trying to call you a liar, but I have never, ever heard of this car you speek of. What year is the SS you speak of??? THe most HP I ever heard of in a Lumina was 215 out of a 3.4l dual overhead cam.

he's no liar, see for yourself: http://www.gmarabia.com/chevrolet_ca.../lumina_ss.htm

also see the caprice ss: http://www.gmarabia.com/chevrolet_ca...caprice_ss.htm

both the caprice and lumina look a lot like holdens from australia and have the same drivetrain as them so i bet they are imported

i find it really ironic that we americans, the perpetuators of all machines powerful don't have these. i hope bob lutz carries out his amibitions.

Like I said in my post I wasn't trying to actually call him a liar. Just wanted to see proof. You gave it to me. Thanks. And very interesting too.

Just looked some more. Wow! over 400ft lbs of torq. WOW! What will they do next. I want that Lumina. My wife has a 90 eurosport. Now I want her to buy one of those. I want one!!!!!

see what else GM makes that you won't see: http://hsv.com.au/main.html, except for the monaro which is the new GTO

bob lutz spoke at my school a few weeks ago and said the gto will have 405hp the second year that it's in the US. also mentioned the new grand prix is the best handling FWD he's ever driven

i got to meet him afterwards and asked him about 5th gens and he said there will never be another camaro/firebird because they made a deal with the st. therese plant union that they wont build one again, or something to that effect. that's not to say chevy wont have another budget sports car in a few years, though

U-Train,

Cool. You got to meet and speak with Mr. Lutz. Did you ask him how his brother, John, was doing? (I used to work with him.)

"Never" is a long time. There might have been promises to the CAW about 'F' cars, but that doesn't preclude the UAW or Holden from producing a RWD sport coupe.

There is also serious talk about GM reintroducing a large-platform RWD sedan in the next couple of years, like the old 'B' body that supposedly was "never going to be built again". I guess the world is getting its fill of trucks already. The recent federal ruling (Tuesday) raising the safety and CAFE numbers for SUVs and light trucks is probably going to deflate the supply side of the market even more through increased cost and lower performance. Ford has already decided to kill the Extinction (Expedition) at the end of the year. 10 MPG and no ***** was just too much for its buyers.

GM may be slow to react, but they eventually build what the public will buy. If that happens to be an 'F' body type car, that's what it will be.

Funny that he mentioned the Grand Prix's handling, but had to qualify his statement by saying "best FWD", not just plain "best handling vehicle" What does that tell you about FWD? That's like saying "It does pretty well, considering it's a P.O.S."

Hmm I never knew he had a brother lol. I take it you and John both worked for GM? What did you do there, if you don't mind my asking. I really want to get a co-op job with GM (and then hopefully get hired as an engineer after I graduate) but it seems like the only people that can get the jobs have parents working there. It think Mr. Lutz is defnitely taking GM in the right direction. As far as bringing RWD back he said it will mostly be fullsize cars, so yeah sounds like a new B body is headed our way, maybe a new Impy SS is in your future lol.

That's 462 Nm of Torque, not lb-ft.

GM is the largest auto company in the world. They do make some really nice things not available here.

John headed a different company. Though not GM, it was (is) a GM supplier. We both got "downsized", and he was CEO! Mergers... sometimes they suck. Sorry, I heve no inside track there to help you with, but internships are common in a lot of larger organizations, and they don't get much larger than GM.

As for the 'B' cars, yeah, I really need another land yacht stuffed in the garage.
