Car revs when at a stop

Okay, heres my problem-

When I'm at a stop, the RPMs will go from 300-600 until I get going. When I let off the brake and give it gas, it kinda stutters until the RPMs go about 1500, then it goes no problem. I just replaced the cap, rotor, plugs, and wires. Any ideas what the problem is? Thanks in advance.

Could be that the IAC/TPS needs to be checked/adusted. RPM's should never go that low. If you're not sure how to do it, https://www.thirdgen.org/newdesign/tech/tpimod2.shtml

Update- I replaced the fuel filter and took it for a drive. When at a light, it no longer varies the RPMs, but then when I go, it almost stalls and I hear a noise that sounds kinda like a backfire. Any other ideas before I just take the damn thing to the shop?

Andy, my Blazer did that same thing for awhile. And it was brand new. I had to replace some of the injectors-under warrenty thank ***. Once the injectors were replaced no more problems. Put the car on a computer before you shell out the dough. Pep Boys on La Grange will check it for free. The one by my house in Homewood will do the same. No strings.

Now you know why I like my carbed engine. Easy to fix.

Check for the MAF sensor. Mine kind of does the same thing. Check for codes too.

I had a TPS laying around for my LT1 intake so I put it on, no luck. I also have a MAF, so I'm gonna go try that too.

Well I put on the new MAF and things have improved greatly.

On the way home from work the car almost died 5 times. After installing the MAF, I took it for a test drive around the block. It still hesitates slightly and is a little sluggish to get going up hill, but it isn't even close to stalling now.

Thats great to hear. Did you just have a new MAF laying around or something? Im not an expert but it could be relearning all the info from the new MAF.

I recently bought an LT1 intake that came with a MAF, so I used that one.

I just drove it for a while and its idling at about 1500 now and the SES light is on.
