White Goo in oil
White Goo in oil
i was just at my friends and he was trying to figure out where he was leaking oil from and he said it looked like the head gasket and i said usually if that goes you know it, and then we noticed he was low on coolant and he said hes rarely had to refill his coolant and suddenly hes really low on coolant. so i went to check his oil to see if any coolant was in it and when i checked it it was really dirty and on the end of the stick there was like white goo on the end. i thought maybe it was just on the dipstick so i wiped it and the next 3 times it kept coming up with white goo. i have no clue what it is but he just changed his oil a few weeks ago and hes running amsoil synth. which was also odd because usually synth doesnt get that mucky. any guesses?
I think you figured it out on your own. Coolant missing, oil gooey. You could have a cracked intake, bad intake gasket, or worse. May not be the head gasket. The only way to tell is to start taking it apart.
yeah but when the coolant mixes with the oil it gets bubbly and watery, ive never seen it turn into white slime. and for being synthetic oil it was really dirty lookin, not lighter like it was watered down but dark. unless maybe his insides were so dirty from the dino oil that the synth is just cleaning it all up.
All the times I've seen coolant in oil (used to work in a lube shop, I'd see it probably once a week), it would be white with a little brown in it. Sort of chocolate milk coloured.
Your buddy definitely has coolant in his oil. Check out the things like head gasket, heads, etc.

Start with the simple stupid thing: intake gasket. They go bad ALOT. But even if it's a head gasket, it's not that big of a deal... just take the heads off and put new ones in.

I had a truck once with a cracked block (long sad story).
The oil on the dipstick looked just as you mentioned.
The water/anti-freeze goes to the bottom of the pan (since oil is lighter than water) and makes up a slimmy white muck. The majority of the oil floats on top of the muck.
(Guess where the oil pick-up tube is
)
Anyway, have a couple of drain pans ready (or maybe 1 BIG one)when you drain the oil. I made a hell of a mess. Lived on a steep hill. Neighbor (cat lover) on the downhill side wasn't happy at all.
Thought she would never shut up at it...
But hey, I wasn't expecting 4 gallons of waste to drain out!
