passing emissions with a carb

my car used to be tpi, now its carbed. so the reading for my car will be based of fuel injection readings wich are probly more strict. what is the best chance i have of passing? i have no idea what so ever if my car is running too lean or rich, ive adjusted it so that it runs nicely. but i have no idea if its adjusted properly. is there some way i can screw the emissions test? i bought a bottle of guarenteed pass from an auto parts store, but it says to pour it in a full tank, drive till empty and fill up again with just gas. this sounds to me like a solution for some crapy old engine thats on its last legs, mine is totaly brand new, carb and all.
is it even worth wasting a whole tank of gas for this bottle? please help me out, i have less than a day before my temp permit runs out

Try slipping the emission tester a 100 dollar bill. Think you should be able to pass that way. LOL!!! I heard if you dump in a couple bottles of dry gas it helps. But I havn't tried it.

A tip my mechanic showed me was to put one gallon of racing alcohol to half tank of gas. Worked every time.

be aware

alcohol eats gaskets, pass n die later, or pass with putting some $ into it. I paid 200 bucks to get it waved for a year. depending on the year, show some reciets and they'll pass you if u paid so much for a year.

I'm dropping a stock cam in and that should fix me needs. Retard your idle to helps greatly and dry gas or other liquids u can buy at any local wal-mart, autozone, etc. They are 10 times safer than alcohol

alcohol eats gaskets... hmm, drove mine for a year before I flipped it upside down through phone pole, that was the only thing that was wrong with the car. My buddys rail engine doesnt get tore down regularly and its a pure alcohol motor running mid 7's. I will check into that before I suggest it to anyone else though. 1 gallon "diluted" with half tank.

What do you think dry gas is?

sorry i did not mean dry gas, it was fresh in my mind since we dropped some in out torpedo heaters, however the other solvents worked for my brother n it improved mine, and its surely safer then alcohol.

4 Shops here one including a popular machine shop who runs a carlo that runs consistent 8's, says alcohol eats gaskets so I wasn't saying anyone was wrong, if u noticed cept being an ***, I said be aware.

"aware"

Sorry for the mishap, do whatver you want lol

Install an O2 sensor kit, adjust idle screws and primary jets for about 450mv.

ah.... i took it and failed miserably by double what the passing reading was. my timeing is advanced by 18 degrees could that be why? i spent all night tuneing my carb too..... also, the fact that its based on fuel injection readings doesnt help much either. i want to install an O2 sensor, but that would take alot of work (drill hole in headers... wich means removeing them.... plus trying to mount a new gauge somewhere) how much do they cost anyway? i guess i got 3 months to figure out a new way of screwing aircare.....

IIRC, O2 sensor kits run about 130US in Jegs/Summit, etc.

You could fab your own for much less.

No need to drill the headers, do it in the Y-pipe. Drill a hole, weld on a bung.

I had to put ALL of the emissions back on my TA when I got stationed in California. Went from horribly failing with my Edelbrock carb to, and I kid you not, almost 0 on most readings after putting in the stock QJ and installing a cat, egr, etc. Carb or injected, you can't get better than I ran without going electric!
