Sister-in-law lost her key(Taurus)
My sister in law lost the keys to her '96 taurus on boxing day.She thought she could call the serial numbers in to the local Ford dealership and get the code for the key,but they told her it was bought as a fleet vehicle and that they couldn't get a key code for it.Is she screwed or what? They told her it would cost over 400.00 bucks to change the ignition and she can't find any used ones in the junk yard.Do you guy's know of any Ford websites or places i can inquire about the keycodes.I figured if anybody would know it would be you guy's.
Have you tried a locksmith instead of the dealer. Locksmiths have the same (and more) keying code references that the dealer service departments have. Besides, they've got to be a lot brighter than a Phord mechanic...

Ialso have a 96 mustang gt. And al i have is one key left. My wife locked the keys in the car one day and she had to call a locksmith out to open it up. The locksmith said he could make a new key with a chip inside, but it would cost me 150 bucks. He had all the tools he needed to make a new key right in his Bus.
Locksmiths can do wonders, I bought my trans am with no keys for anything but the ignition. Took a lock down to him, and within an hour I had a perfect door key. It cost 23 dollars vs. whatever all new locks woulda ran me, plus the oppurtunity to do what I just love most, rip doors apart and beat my knuckles up on anything in there thats remotely sharp.

$150!! From a lock smith?? WOW! Here in Canada, at my local GM dealership, I pay $55 Canadian to have a "VATS" enabled key made. I think that lock smith is ripping you off.

yes for a normal key it wouldn't cost much. But for a ford key with a chip in it costs money. You wouldnt be able to start the car without the chip in it.
