notching my floorpan......
i need to notch my floorpan to get my exhasut to fit
what is the best way to do this?
i only need to remove a small piece
like a 1"x1" square
should i use a grinder?
oh yeah, its only one side
my long tube headers fit, but the exhaust hits the frame a few inches after the collector
thanx

If it's a race car, use a cutoff wheel in a die grinder.
If it's a street car, dent the floor pan; or better yet, run an exhaust system that actually fits. It really sux having a 650° exhaust part sticking into your interior, just waiting for somebody to touch it, or for something to come into contact with it and catch fire.

whats that mean ed?anyways, yeah, its a street car, so i guess i can get away with denting it
its not really the floopan i guess............its the cars underbelly right where the crossmember attaches to
so its not like any of the exhaust is coming into the interior
like i said.......its a very small piece that needs to be dented in
thanx RB!

Are you planning on doing this to the floor pan or the subframe. I wouldnt do it to the subframe. What size exhaust do you plan on running. If you are running dual 3 I dont know what to tell you but I would rather clearance the pipe myself. If it is dual 2.5 you can use the hedman s extensions to clear it and move the exhaust closer to the center. If you are using 3" you the other side will hit the tranny crossmember and you will have to modify it too. What size are you planning and what is your motor setup?

i guess it would be the subframe
the headman's wont clear, thats why i need to make this dent, so the headman uv extensions will clear
the headers are 1 5/8 full lengths i picked up at the swap meet for $30
no brand name is on the headers, they do fit the chassis well though
and yes, i am on TIGHT budget, so i cant go spend $500 on shorties and a y-pipe
engine is in sig, nothing spectacular, but its better than what i had

oh yeah, its for the 87 Z28
i bought my entire dual exhaust setup for $200, so its cheaper than buying a $500 cat-back and then spending $300 on a custom y-pipe
the piping is 2.5 inch
true duals with side exits, flowmaster 40 series mufflers...................
(please dont remind me that a single 3 inch will flow just as well, because i have stated above why i went with this setup..........budget, etc)

Dude I am running duals too so settle down. I dont have pics of the exhaust but if you want to see some of the headers installed(hooker long tubes) go here. www.picturetrail.com/Momar01 Yes, the s extensions will bring it down to clear the subframe and they are only like 30 bucks or something. Go to this link to see what the s extensions and h pipe will look like. https://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/sho...postid=1117602 This is with the same headers you have. Go here and you can see bacically what my exhaust is like except for I am using 2.5 and he is using 3" after the extensions which are 2.5 and expanded to fit his 3". The pic is at the bottom of this one. https://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/sho...56#post1129356

its just that so many people tell me not to waste my money on true duals, that it became annoying after a while, especially since it cost less than a decent cat-back
like i said, i already have the headman universal extensions
but the passenger side (and only that side) needs a 1"x1" dent put into the subframe for it to fit
thanx for all the help!!!!

also, dont forget, my headers are may be different than what everybody else is using
i bought them at a swap meet for $30
i was told they would fit a 3rd gen
came home, looked at them, looked at the engine bay, and i thought, i just got shammed, big time
but i was wrong, because when i was ready to install them, they went in
i had to remove the starter to get the pass side in
and i also had to take off my master cylinder and power booster to get the driver side on
i prolly could have put them in from underneath, but i couldnt get my car jacked up high enough
anyway, i looked at 3rd gen long tube designs
and then i looked at old school 70's chevelle and 70-81 camaro headers
it seems to me i was sold 70's chevelle/70-81 headers, BUT they do fit except for the little dent that is going to be needed
